Running Small Business server 2000 with exchange 5.5. I had 20+ Gb of Transaction log files due to never doing an exchange backup (space was an issue) added extra space so did a normal nt backup of exchange it cleared 6Gb of logs but i'm still left with 15Gb of logs it didn't clear them all. wondering if anybody has any insight into this issue. As a side note I'm wondering why older log files show in blue while newer files show as black tnx Mike
you have 15gb worth of logs? .. geesh. Not familiar with exchange logs but that seems to be an awfull lot of text.. can u just delete them or is that a tax issue?
Tnx for the response crow, yes 15 GB left I had 21+ Gbs MS says exchange should clear the logs after a full backup witch I did but it only cleared 6+Gb and left the rest. MS warns that deleting the logs will prevent a complete exchange restore. This is a customers exchange server and i'm reluctant to just delet them if the information store should need to be rebuilt and i've deleted the logs I'd be in a jam. I just recently aquired this customer and the former IT personal never preformed a backup and thats why it's in the shape it's in. Mike
hmm.. well.. I dont guess MS says what the maximum amount of log space is or is needed ..? not that it even matters I am just thinking, depending on what state your in i guess, you shouldnt have to keep records over two years old.. might check into that cuz it seems it sure would free up some space. Of course that two year deal is a catch22, if you get audited.. they go back 5 years…. go figure
I've decided on a corse of action for this problem. Thanks to crow and others. You should reguard this topic as resolved. Tnx CCMike
