I afraid I'm going to screw up, I did the restore, should I now go to your previous post ( posted @1:10 pm )and do as you instucted me to do? thanks mike
Mike, we must be two hours different, I see the post at 3:10, this is how it starts:

OK Mike, We still have quite a bit of infection still in the log. Try to stay offline as much as possible while we clean it up. It may be that something like SpySheriff is inviting additional malware in. Let's do a removal with HJT.

We have to start somewhere, I am not totally sure why the Ewido scan failed to remove a lot of this stuff, but the only way to proceed is one step at a time. Do you have anyone with more computer experience that can help you? Do the steps I posted one at a time, carefully. Once you finish, post a new HJT log so I can see how much was fixed and what is left to do Thanks.
I did as you instructed, in your past post. ran hjt after completing the items, hope we made progress. and no in my circles i'm the top dog on the computer, so your stuck with me. Sorry.

Hi Mike, Before I look at your log, I want to say I see the AVG program blocking viruses/trojans and Spybot is there also :D AVG is a great program but since it is free, there is no tech support. Look at the program when you have time and set it to run and to get your updates automatically. Here is a forum where you can get help from your peers should you need them:
http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/index.php?0 You should also make sure your SP2 firewall is activated in your Security Center, and that your Windows Critical Updates is set to automatic. If you need information about this or other SP2 information, let me know.

I did as you instructed, in your past post. ran hjt after completing the items, hope we made progress. and no in my circles i'm the top dog on the computer, so your stuck with me. Sorry.

Thanks much for doing your best, I want you to know I appreciate that, and that you will do. This has been a very bad accumulation of malware and the fix has been complex. All I ask is that you do your best to follow the directions and if you do not understand something, stop and ask rather than proceed and cause a problem for yourself. Thanks.

This item: F:\hijacked\HijackThis.exe, where is the F? HJT must have a folder to store the backups in. F must be a drive. I suggest you open your C:\ and point to a blank spot then RIGHT click and make a new folder. Move HijackThis.exe into that folder so it looks like this: C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe

Do your know what this is: O2 - BHO: PhishingNet BHO - {DE3A0297-5EFF-4FF2-A48D-ABBC67D4D774} - C:\Program Files\Geek Superhero\GeekSuperheroX.dll If you do not, let me know as I would like to remove it, it is optional and you get to decide. It looks it costs $25 if this is a trial period, I suggest we remove it and I will give you a better tool that is free.

A little more work for HJT:
(I don't know what this is but it does not look good)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [supervideospornous-htm] RunDll32 TriacomUD.dll,RunAsIcon supervideospornous
(this is adware, see this link) http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.weirdontheweb.html
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WeirdOnTheWeb] "C:\Program Files\WeirdOnTheWeb\WeirdOnTheWeb.exe"

In the link Symantec suggests you may be able to Uninstall WierdOTtheWeb in Add Remove programs, so take a look and do so if it is there.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [supervideospornous-htm] RunDll32 TriacomUD.dll,RunAsIcon supervideospornous
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WeirdOnTheWeb] "C:\Program Files\WeirdOnTheWeb\WeirdOnTheWeb.exe"

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Now locate the: C:\Program Files\WeirdOnTheWeb\ >>> folder and delete it, you will probably need to enable hidden files again to find it.

Once that is done, please run one last Ewido scan, save the log and reboot the computer. Post a last HJT log along with the Ewido scan log.

Run CCleaner again to pick up any leftovers.

Thanks…Phil

thanks for the forum info on antivirus, I moved HJT to a folder on C: geeksuperhero was from me before I found your site. was able to uinstall weird on web from add remove programs. here are my lastest logs. Looks like we are making some headway. also a note, should have made my log in name sittting duck! cause that was what I was!

Hello Mike, My question was "let me know as I would like to remove it", I am going to suggest other programs anyway.
If the trial expires you can probably uninstall it from Add Remove programs.

Mike, Congratulations  Your HJT log is clean. Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051
http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict2520.html

You will see these suggested in the links above, but I personally suggest:

SpywareBlaster
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial49.html
SpywareGuard:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial50.html
IE-Spyad
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial53.html

Along with Ad-aware and Spybot and
Your firewall
Antivirus Software
AutoUpdates of Criticals

Pat yourself on the back :) you worked through some tough infections. Get these security programs in place and follow the advice in the links and you have a good chance of not getting infected again. I'll keep your thread open for a few days in the event you have questions.

Safe surfing…Phil :wavey:

Good, thanks for the info and all the help, but when I launch exploer (about:blank) still has control. I was thinking of going to firefox as my browser, do i have to get rid of about:blank or can I just get rid of MS internet explorer? let me know. Mike Hickman Eagle CO
Hey Mike, I have never seen any evident that you have an A:B infection, are you talking about what is on your Home Page when you open Internet Explorer?

Do this: Open IE > Click on Tools at the top > Internet Options. Make sure you are on the General Tab. In the Home Page box put the address of whatever you wish your Home Page to be. If you don't chose an option it will appear blank. If you are talking about anything else, please give me more information. As I said, your log is spotless and there is no evidence of an About:Blank infection. Let me know something.

I also use Firefox as an alternate browser, if you wish to use it in addition to IE, that is fine and here is the link: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ I must say that using Firebox will not stop you from infections. The reason it is free of infections is that malware writers are concentrating on IE which is where the advertising $$ is. Once enough people get on Firefox to make it financially lucrative to target Firefox it will happen. The trick is to protect yourself no matter what browser you use. If you do not watch yourself online and practive good internet habits as are described in the links from the folks I gave you, you will get infected.
Thanks…Phil
ThanksPhil, you sir were correct, was in a hurry (surprise) late for work, did not take the time to try and fix it myself.. I saved all the info from your post's to a Favorites and hope to start reading and acting on them today. Again want to thank you for your patience and your knowlage in helping me. I'm also going to pass this info on to my friends so they don't get caught like I did. Again Thanks, Mike Hickman
Thanks Mike, good luck and safe surfing. I'll give the thread a couple of days before I close it. Nice working with you…Phil
