I picked up this file named netddInt.exe which is obviously malware. I use 2 blockers while surfing and a total of 4 programs to remove malware, but nothing caught it. It didn't even show up in my Windows 2000 system32 directory until I changed the setting to show system files. Microsoft AntiSpyware blocks it from running, but a couple seconds later it starts running again. Since it's always running, I can't delete it manually. One thing it did was load about 200 addresses into my Windows host file – most in European countries. Anyone else get this file and successfully remove it? If so, how? I can't afford to buy expensive software for this cheapo used computer.
Hello starrwriter, Welcome to the Forum.

There's a new version of HijackThis.

Now go to the folder you saved HijackThis_sfx.exe in.

Double click HijackThis_sfx.exe and select Unzip. When done click "OK".
Close the WinZip self Extractor window.

Open HijackThis and select: Do a system scan and save a log file.

When the scan is finished, Click Edit> Select All> Edit> Copy> and paste its contents here [Add Reply].
Even though I found a way to get rid of this particular malware file, I downloaded HijackThis because it looks like a useful tool. MoveOn Boot would not directly delete the file. I had to rename it, move it to my desktop and restart the computer. Then it was no longer running and I could delete it manually. My machine has worked fine since then. Thanks for your suggestion.

At the command prompt: type exit.

Wow, that's quite a to-do list! I'll tackle it tomorrow when I have more time. My computer runs as good as it did the day I bought it. No problems with speed, booting or anything else. And I haven't picked up any spyware, Trojans, etc. since I deleted that one malware file. I normally believe "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," but I'll do what you suggest if you think it's really necessary. Bill

netddecInt.exe needs to go, or you're just going to continue to have problems.

179337

Pasted below is the logfile with a couple entries highlighted by me. The Network DDE Client is still trying to run the malware file I deleted manually a couple days ago. The run CMD tap you suggested produced DOS errors: both sc and delete not recognized as internal or external commands. BUT an unknown toolbar listed by Microsoft AntiSpyware that I couldn't remove before is now gone.

What next? Keep in mind I don't have the Windows 2000 CD to reinstall if I screw up the OS. I have Windows 98SE CD, but it's FAT32 instead of NTSF and the software to convert the file system costs more than the computer did.

I couldn't delete the NetDDecInt service listing with HijackThis because something associated with it was either running or enabled. So, as per instructions, I used Windows Administrative Tools>Services to disable NetDDecInt and it disappeared from HijackThis logfile. I also got rid of the AOL listing, so I guess everything is fixed. The computer runs great.

Good Job

I would at least get the free Ant-Virus program <_<

Log looks good :D  How is it running any issues?

1.Do one of the following:
In Windows 98/Me/2000, on the Windows desktop, double-click the My Computer icon.
In Windows XP, on the taskbar, click Start > My Computer.

2.Do one of the following:
In Windows 98, on the View menu, click Folder Options.
In Windows Me/2000/XP, on the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
On the View tab, check Hide file extensions for known file types.

3.Do one of the following:
In Windows 98, in the Advanced Settings box, under the "Hidden files" folder, unclick Show all files.
In Windows Me/2000/XP, check Hide protected operating system files. Then, under the "Hidden files" folder, unclick Show hidden files and folders.
If you see a warning message, click Yes.
Click Apply.
Click OK.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
Thanks for your help, Tate.
