Why aren't hijackers illegal?
Hello vishnuloki, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you still need help please follow these instructions in the posted order. You do have some nasty stuff onboard. Some of this junk changes things on your computer. I will remove it and provide links for you to review.

1)

Why aren't hijackers illegal?

A step in the right direction occured recently:
http://news.com.com/Company+settles+spywar…top&tag;=nl.e433

2) Please download and run this uninstaller: http://www.purityscan.com/uninstall.html

3) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

4) Ewido trojan scanner: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack….
  5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread

  7. 5) You have several bad infections and you would be better served if you were to use the most recent versions of Ad-aware and Spybot as they can get to places HJT cannot. Please use this link: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php to download, update, configure and run these two "big guns" and allow them to remove anything bad they locate. Both programs provide backups for your safety. ***note: please do not activate Spybot TeaTimer until your computer is clean. Run Spybot first and reboot between the scans. It is good to run both programs at least twice, and run the "Full System Scan".

    6) You have called the HJT folder New Folder\HijackThis.exe, this is fine as that is where HJT will store the HJT.exe, logs and backups for safety. Please do not store anything NOT HJT related in that folder.

    7) Open Task Manager then the Processes tab. highlite and end process on this item: C:\WINDOWS\System32\r?ndll32.exe

    8) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

    -Roings Search Hijacker

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
    http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items, You will need special instructions as a couple are tricky.

First one may be gone as it is Purityscan, but if it is there, but very carefull with the spelling.
The valid (good) item: RUNDLL32.EXE is going to be very near if the bad one is there. Do not delete the valid item in bold black,
    Delete the item in red.
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\r?ndll32.exe >>> file

    C:\I386\FIND.EXE >>> just the file

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntlanui.exe >>> just the file

    C:\Program Files\ScanSpyware v3.5\ >>> delete the folder in red

Locate C:\Windows\Prefetch folder and open it. Delete the contents of the folder (NOT THE FOLDER) if there are many choose Edit then Select all then Delete. You may not be able to remove them all, don't be concerned unless any have the name of the items we need to remove. Here is some information about the Prefetch for you:
    http://techrepublic.com.com/5100-6270-5165773.html
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1683520,00.asp

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

    Thanks…pskelley

Hi again vishnuloki, glad to hear you are running better. Just a few more items to clean with HJT. You got the bad stuff and your Ewido scan looks good. Here is what I would like you to do.

1) Could you tell me what this is: C:\Documents and Settings\v\Desktop\Cam\DC++\DCPlusPlus.exe If you do not know, then use this tool: http://virusscan.jotti.org/ Browse to the item and Submit it for investigation. You will be emailed the results, then post those results for me. Thanks.

2) Please note these instructions from my first post.

***note: please do not activate Spybot TeaTimer until your computer is clean.

It appears that you did activate TeaTimer and it did block some of the fix, which is why I said not to do this. Use these instructions: http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm to turn TeaTimer off until you are done with HJT, then you may turn it back on for it's realtime protection.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {22DFEAE8-9AD2-4FC6-9CBA-A6566CA3B6EB} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {469C7080-8EC8-43A6-AD97-45848113743C} -
(next item does not identify, if you know what it is, leave it)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Reboot the computer and post a new HJT log along with the information I requested. Thanks…pskelley
