Hello,

Here is the logfile of my Computer. There is this pesky blue toolbar that takes over everytime I open the internet. I cannot get rid of it. I deleted Messenger 3, but the rest of the program was not deleted. Please, take a look at the following log file and let me know what I can delete. Thank You!

Hello again,

Yes - I still require assistance of this matter. To get temporarily rid of the blue toolbar that is at the bottom of deskop when I open the IE, is to fire up task manager, locate second highest IE process and delete it. That only works temporarily though, the toolbar comes back again when I close and open the internet explorer.

Here is my original message:

Hello KristAlli and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

Step 1
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

O16 - DPF: {FC67BB52-AAB6-4282-9D51-2DAFFE73AFD0} - http://download.spyspotter.com/spyspotter/…rCabInstall.cab

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 2
Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove the following items (if found):

Window Search
Window Searching
Lop.com
LOP SEARCH
Browser Enhancer
Ultimate Browser Enhancer

Step 3
Please set your computer to show all files.
  • Double-click My Computer.
  • Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
  • Click the View tab.
  • Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
  • Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
  • Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.

Step 4
Please delete the following folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\AnniKorpi\Application Data\ITCHMP~1 << Whole Folder with name beginning with ITCHMP.
C:\Documents and Settings\AnniKorpi\Application Data\OWNS1I~1 << Whole Folder with name beginning with OWNS1I.

If you have any problem deleting these items, reboot into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter') and try again.

Step 5
Open notepad and copy and paste the following text into it:
dir %Windir%\tasks /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Save this as findjobs.bat, choose to save it as *all files* and place it on your desktop.

Doubleclick on findjobs.bat and post the content of the textfile you get in your next reply.

Step 6
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread. Include the results of findjobs.bat.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.
It worked! We are so happy. Thanks a billion. Question: Can I use the same solution for a friend of mine who has the same problem?

Files.txt file was empty and here is the latest hijack log:

We're not quite there yet. There are still a couple of lines that need fixing yet.

Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.theziftgbtoawamrtlwcnd.net/TMel…jGd8xy57dyx.asp
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.

For your friend, have them post a HijackThis log in a new thread as the infection uses random file/folder names so a helper will need to review it.
Hello Alan,

Here is the latest log. Sorry, it took awhile. Thanks a lot for your help. I will let my friend know that he needs to do the logging himself.

Your new log appears clean. :)

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK, and then click Yes.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore', click 'OK'.

I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Here are three very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
AdAware SE v1.06
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D; and Adaware SE
a² Free Trojan Remover

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
