Hello lophman, Welcome back to TomCoyote forum. This item has been tricky to remove, let's try the automated tools from Symantec first, perhaps we will get lucky. LineOFire, one of the malware experts has given instructions for editing the registry to remove it but we will try this first.

1) C:\Documents and Settings\DG\Desktop\HijackThis.exe Please return to Docs and Settings then RIGHT click on a blank spot and make a NEW FOLDER called HJT. Then move the HJT.exe and the log that should be there into that folder. We need the folder to save backups for safety. It will look like this now: DG\Desktop\HJT\HijackThis.exe. Thanks.

2) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

3) Now please read these instructions carefully: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen…are.istbar.html the removal tool is in the information but I will also place it here for you: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxIstbar.exe
Keep in mind if the removal tools works some of the items below may not exist when we get to them.

4) Microsoft AntiSpyware is running and it will stop the fix we are trying to make with HJT, it needs to be turned off when you do this. I do not use this Beta software but I have located these instruction, just have not been able to try them:
To disable the program, follow the instructions below:
1.) Right click on the Microsoft Antispyware tray icon (a little red and yellow circle looking thing)
2.) Click on Security Agents Status (Enabled)
3.) Click on Disable Real-time Protection.

5) Open Hijack this and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Cta1cEG] C:\WINDOWS\qejhapl.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Á³# L"h'þ9Óœð3rÅWC:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe] C:\WINDOWS\qejhapl.exe

Close all programs but HJT and all browser window, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the follow link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT click on Start then click on Explore, locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\ >>>Folder

C:\WINDOWS\qejhapl.exe >>> file
Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have.

Thanks…pskelley

Go lophman, I think you are clean, great job. Now let's see if we can keep this stuff off of your computer. Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051
http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict2520.html

How did you like that little cleaning tool. It's a gem, I was astounded at how much junk it found on my two year old Dell, and I thought I was doing a good job cleaning.

I also think you have a lot of running processes you could turn off and start manually if you need them. Use http://www.google.com/ to search for info about running programs. Here are a few links to help:

http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm
http://computercops.biz/StartupList.html

Good luck and safe surfing
