I have a question concerning a program that Dell installs on its computers named My Way Search Assistant which is described briefly at this uninstall help page and on the About Page at the MyWay website:

http://help.myway.com/searchassistant.html

http://info.myway.com/index/id/partner.html

When I get to checking at other computer forums and the question about My Way comes up, there are usually references made to MyWebSearch:

http://www.pchell.com/support/mywebsearch.shtml

http://forum.us.dell.com/supportforums/boa…essage.id=40403

At the above link, the Dell moderator pointed out that the person installed a 3rd party MyWay which is why he ended up with a casino link. It was not the MyWay that Dell installs.

With all that said, isn't the MyWay that Dell installs harmless? Or is it automatically guilty by association because of the 3rd party MyWay? I can understand that a little–it seems to me Dell got off in a gray area backing a program that had such a shady 'cousin'. But I don't understand all the references to MyWebSearch. It is nothing like that program, is it? But virtually every forum has references to MyWebSearch, like DellMyWay is the same kind of program. Please comment and help me to understand about these programs. Thanks!
hi, i have a dell laptop, which is a few years old. i dont recall a my way search assistant on it. however i wiped the hd and reinstalled windows soon after i got it. commerical computers these days ship with more and more garbage on them. search helpers are highly suspect. i would uninstall any "search helpers" via the add/remove programs panel.
