I have been having many pop ups and am unable to remove all spyware from this computer. I have used Ad-aware, Noadware and the Microsoft Beta spyware tool, but am still having problems. Here's my HJT log:

Hello Tami, welcome to the TC.

Important: Do this before any fix.

You need to update your version of HijackThis. Open HJT> Open Misc Tools> Pull the side bar down> Check for update online. If that doesn't work, download it from my signature and remove the hijackThis.exe you have now.

Also please put your HijackThis in it's own folder, (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
You can do a Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then rename the folder HJT.

Go to where your HijackThis is and Right Click on HijackThis.exe, select Cut, then open the new folder you just created (HJT) Right Click in the folder and select paste.

After the above:

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us/easyfile/file.php?dow…050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly — this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.
Hello LDTATE,
Thank you for responding. I have followed your instructions and here is the new HJT log and the Ewido scan report.

However, while waiting for help I did do more sluthing and removed some of the intrusions but that was before I ran the steps you gave me.

Hope these log are clean. Please let me know. I won't have access to this computer until Monday morning, so don't worry if I don't reply until then.

Tami

If you didn't set this policy, fix also.
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Search for and delete these folders if listed:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc
C:\WINDOWS\system32\picsvr

Search for and delete these files if listed:
C:\svchost.exe Only delete the one located here..

Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Well bad just gets worse. When I got to the step to delete the svshost.exe files I accidentaly excuted it. Now I don't get the start bar, unable to connect to the internet on intranet, can't even copy data files to CD. I am current loading a new install of windows in a new directory on the C drive. Will move data files over and reinstall user software. I have seen this problem before and a reload of windows was the only way out before. Do you have any other ideas? very sad Tami
1. You could tyr a System Restore.
2. Boot in Safe Mode and try and delete svshost.exe.
3 If you have access from another PC, download this file and run it on the bad pc.

Get a copy of winsockxpfix.exe before you do anything. This is just a safety
item in case you can't get on the internet afterwards. You just run it and
things should work OK after it reboots your system.

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html
I couldn't do a system restore because with out the start button there isn't a way to get to the option to do the restore. I now have this computer loaded with a fresh install of Windows XP and all seems to be working fine. Thank you so much for your help I will recommend Tomcoyote to all my associates. Happy Now. Tami
If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
