Hi Everyone

I have a problem with my XPpro(SP2) setup. I Googled this morning and got a reply back telling me that my machine was infected and so I could not use the service.

I ran AVG, Adaware and Search& destroy and killed the offending files. Unfortunately - idiot that I am - I witched off XP restore before trying to restore to a "clean" set up.

Anyway, on rebooting I tried Google again and still got the same warning.

This is the Hijack this log, I can't see anything wrong  except that i don't recognise this :

Now here's the curious part.
I have only just (5 days ago) altered my net connection to use a webcache because my internet connection seemed to be very slow and I have just found out that if I disable the webcache, google works. For the last five days it's worked fine going through the cache.

So the question is (at last) -

AVG, Search & Destory and Adaware keep coming back clear but I have become paranoid. Do I still have a problem with infected files?

Thanks for reading this
Hi Nikkj, Welcome to TomCoyote, I also have issues with XPPro SP2, mine are with critical updates. After 4 hours on a toll free number with a Microsoft Tech in Nova Scotia named April, she told me to remove SP2…lol Suggested I might uninstall and reinstall.
You did not post where you are at but I will give you the toll free anyway but it's only for USA and Canada: The number in US/Canada is 888-SP2-HELP

Before you install SP2, here is some information you should have: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx

A search for Startpage.21.AY brought this info from the Grisdoft forum: http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php…7,backpage=,sv=

C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\PCSuite\DATALA~1\DATALA~1.EXE This is http://www.nokia.com/ http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,72014,00.html If it's not let me know.

Now let's take a look at your log. I do not see much, you should be done with BitDefender and I see some uninstall stuff and I will remove it, you also have a hostile ActiveX called Netster that needs to go. While I have you in the chair, let's take a few minutes to give you a good check. I hope that works for you. Please do this in the posted order.

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

2) Ewido trojan scanner: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack….
  5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread

  7. Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8 - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/064dac5f81262d…ip/RdxIE601.cab
    Netster see the next link:
    http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen…martbrowse.html Symantec calls it spyware.
    O16 - DPF: {5D86DDB5-BDF9-441B-9E9E-D4730F4EE499} (BDSCANONLINE Control) - http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/oscan8.cab
above: if you need it the .cab file will download again when you go to the website.

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.
Also post the Ewido scan log.

I want to give you a link to the new versions of Ad-aware and Spybot. Both have just undated to new versions. Here are the download links and configuration instructions: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php

    Thanks…pskelley

Hi pskelley Thanks for the response. FYI I'm based in London, UK. My issues were not with SP2 ( I installed XP with a slipstream CD I prepared) but with the trojan. :( Unfortunately my system has gone belly up. I think its a PSU problem -new one coming- but I have reinstalled 6 times over the last two days!! I have not been able to access my emails, hence my delay in replying to you. I will look at your recommendations as an exercise in HTJ use because I would like to be able to help out the other Log posters. Thanks again Nikkj
Hello Nikkj,
