Hi, here's my hijack this log, I'd be grateful if someone could have a look and give me some advice. I'm running AVG for anti-virus and just sweeped with ad-aware, registry mechanic and spybot sarch and destroy on top of a virus scan with AVG which produced no threats (I know, it's overkill but better be safe than sorry).

Hi Nikolaos:
The measures you took are not at all "overkill". I would also have advised to run Ewido and perhaps Panda Active Scan, as a normal cleanup procedure.

Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work. Please proceed with this fix in the order provided below.

If you have a specific problem, please give details.

Disable TeaTimer:
Please disable TeaTimer as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean. To disable TeaTimer:
  • Run Spybot-S&D
  • Go to the Mode menu , and make sure "Advanced Mode " is selected
  • On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer " and OK any prompts
  • Restart your computer.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable TeaTimer again.
Close all windows and browsers, leaving only HijackThis running.

Place a check beside each of these entries listed below, if still present.

Hi Nikolaos:

The first is a Service, so we need to stop and disable it, before fixing the entry with Hijack This and deleting the file, if still present. It is a driver, so be sure it is not needed for something else too, before following these directions to remove it.
The 016 entries, we can just fix with Hijack This. 016 entries may be replaced, if the site is revisited.

First, Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.

To stop a service and set to 'disabled'
WXP ONLY

Go to Start > Run and type in Services.msc then click OK

Click the Extended tab.

Scroll down until you find the service. Pml Driver HPZ12 - HP

Click once on the service to highlight it.

Click Stop

Right-Click on the service. Pml Driver HPZ12 - HP

Click on 'Properties'

Select the 'General' tab

Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side on the 'Start-up Type' box

From the drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled'

Click the 'Apply' tab, then click 'OK'

The service is now stopped and disabled.

Then, please reboot into Normal Mode.

I do not see a FIREWALL installed, which is absolutely essential.

Below you will find a link to Zone Alarm, which has a good free firewall for personal use, another for kerio (free for personal use) and a link to sygate. Note that it is not recommended to run two firewalls simultaneously, not even along with the Microsoft XP firewall, which is not recommended.
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/cata…sku_list_za.jsp
http://www.kerio.com/us/kpf_home.html
http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_pro.htm

Then:
To disable the XP firewall: Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > Settings > Properties > Advanced…. Remove the check mark from the "Internet Connection Firewall" box and click "OK." Now, install your new firewall, without any further delay and certainly before going onto the internet.

Next:
Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all windows and browsers, leaving only HijackThis running.

Place a check beside each of these entries listed below, if still present.

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK and delete them, if still present:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\HPZipm12.exe

Exit Explorer, enable hidden files and reboot.
