Hello,

For about the last month I have been getting these really annoying popups that have been slowing down my machine. I have tried to remove them using Spyware S&D and the Microsoft Antispyware program with no luck. I have narrowed it down to Oinadserve and I'm about to lose my mind. I downloaded HijackThis and ran a scan. Below is my log, any help would be very much appreciated!

Hello perwin;

If you have not configured Ad-Aware for a full systems scan, please do so and please be sure to update the program before running it. We find that many users fail to do these two very important things.

Next:

Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack….
  5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread, along with a new HijackThis log.

  7. We need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

    Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
    Click on Tools, Settings.
    In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
    Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
    Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
    After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
    Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.
    After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

    Next:
    Please set your computer to show all files.

    * Double-click My Computer.
    * Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
    * Click the View tab.
    * Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
    * Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
    * Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
    * Click Apply, and then click OK.

    Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
    Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
    Place a check mark beside each one of the following entries:

    R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Eov] C:\WINNT\system32\??pPatch\chkdsk.exe
    O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINNT\web\related.htm
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINNT\web\related.htm
    O16 - DPF: {2B96D5CC-C5B5-49A5-A69D-CC0A30F9028C} (MiniBugTransporterX Class) - http://wdownload.weatherbug.com/minibug/tr…Transporter.cab?

    The following are OPTIONAL fixes:
    If you know and trust the following then keep them. If not, they can be fixed with Hijack This.

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Bamd] C:\Program Files\thts\cbss.exe
    O4 - Startup: Connected TaskBar Icon.LNK = C:\Program Files\Connected\CBSysTray.exe

    If you set these 06 Policies, or asked a program such as Spybot to set them, then keep them.
    O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
    O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

    Do you really want any programs in your Trusted zone?

    O23 - Service: SMSAgent - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\SMSAGENT.EX

    Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button.

    Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

    Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK, and delete them (if they are present):

    C:\WINNT\web\related.htm

    C:\Program Files\thts If also fixed in Hijack This. Please note that this is optional and must also be Uninstalled/Removed in Add Remove Programs.

    C:\Program Files\Connected\CBSysTray.exe Please note that this is optional and must also be Uninstalled/Removed in Add/Remove Programs.

    Reboot , enable hidden files and post a fresh Hijack This log in this thread, Using the Post Reply: feature, so I will be notified.

    Note: Do not attempt to "Fix" anything in the new log, as we need to see the entire log.
Piatan,

Thanks for the help! It looks like most of these have been taken care of, but I did notice that MS Antispyware logged this event when I restarted after the modifications in Safe Mode:

=======
URL Search Hooks alert

Occured on: 6/13/2005 at 9:11:52 PM

An Internet Explorer URL Search Hook ({CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}) has been added to Internet Explorer and has been automatically allowed. Microsoft AntiSpyware has determined this program to be free of known spyware.

About URL Search Hooks: A URL Search Hook is used when you type an address in the location field of the browser, but do not include a protocol such as http:// or ftp:// in the address. When you enter such an address, the browser will attempt to figure out the correct protocol on its own, and if it fails to do so, will use the UrlSearchHook will attemp to try to find the location you entered.

======

Is this okay?

Also, here are my HiJackThis Log and my ewido log:

Hi perwin;
That's a lot more information than we usually get from Microsoft. It looks okay to me and MS doesn't seem to be concerned.

How is it going with that "Oinadserve" and those annoying popups ?

If you determined all those entries that were optional to delete in your previous log are okay and so left them on your PC, then this log looks clean. We usually make programs or entries optional to remove when we are unable to find anything solid about them on the Internet, but they may be known and trusted by the user.

Protection Recommendations:

If you dont have these three FREE programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening.
Piatan, Thanks again for your help, it looks like the annoying pop ups have gone away. I haven't experienced one today so I think it is problem solved. BTW, the optional items you noted that I could delete if needed are actually corporate-mandated settings for things like backups, etc., so there are no worries on my end. Take care, Paul
You're welcome. Glad we could be of help. :D
