I ran Norton Antivirus and it found 2 threatening trojans: A0068678.dll and gebxw.dll

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

(And a quick question: if NAV has found and quarantined the trojans, does that eliminate them? do i have to take further steps?).

Here's my Hijack this log:

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry for the delay but the load here gets overwhelming at times.

Close ALL programs down, leaving ONLY HijackThis running.
Place a check against the following items:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {7697DB96-5DA3-44F2-BC97-AD35E5F4CEDC} - C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\srvpc.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: srvpc - C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\srvpc.dll

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Delete this file if found:

C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\srvpc.dll

(And a quick question: if NAV has found and quarantined the trojans, does that eliminate them? do i have to take further steps?).

They're still on your computer but can't cause any harm.
You can delete the contents of NAV quarantine folder or how ever they recommend to do it.

Reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log and we'll take another look. MrC
Thank you very much, Mr. Charlie.

I checked off the files you said, ran hijack this and rebooted. Here is my new log file. Thanks again!

OK, it's still there.

Lets do this….

Download this cleaner:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxVundoB.exe

Turn off system restore?

Make sure you know how to boot into - SafeMode

Restart the computer in Safe mode.
Double-click the FxVundoB.exe file to start the removal tool.
Click Start to begin the process, and then allow the tool to run.
Restart the computer.
Run the removal tool again to ensure that the system is clean.

When the tool has finished running, you will see a message indicating whether Trojan.Vundo.B has infected the computer. The tool displays results similar to the following:

Total number of the scanned files
Number of deleted files
Number of repaired files
Number of terminated viral processes
Number of fixed registry entries

Please post these results

Run HJT again and fix these two if they're still there:

Reboot and post a fresh HJT log, MrC
I ran the removal tool in safe mode, and it reported that it did not find the trojan on my computer.

I then ran Hijack this again. Here is the log file. Thanks again.

We'll have to get this manually.

Only proceed with this if you are sure this file exists:

C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\srvpc.dll

—————————————————————————

Here's the fix:

Please download Process Explorer by Systernals and extract it to your desktop. Do not run this now as we will use it later.

Download and unzip the KillBox to a folder - we'll use it later.

Download FixVundo.reg and save it to your desktop. Do not run this now as we will use it later.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Double-click on procexp.exe which is the Process Explorer that we downloaded earlier.

In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double-click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.
Once you see this screen click on each instance of srvpc.dll and click on the kill button. If you see any files listed that are the same name but end with .bak or .ini or are the name in reverse, you can kill those as well.
After you have killed all of the instances of srvpc.dll under winlogon click on the OK button.

Now double-click on explorer.exe, select the Threads tab, and again click once on each instance of srvpc.dll Once they are highlighted click on the Kill button like you did in the step above.

When this is done, click on the OK button again.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS AND BROWSERS Scan with Hijack This and put checks next to all the following, then click "Fix Checked"

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {7697DB96-5DA3-44F2-BC97-AD35E5F4CEDC} - C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\srvpc.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: srvpc - C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\srvpc.dll

Exit HijackThis.

Now double-click on the FixVundo.reg file that you downloaded earlier and allow it to merge the information.

Double-click on Killbox.exe that you downloaded and extracted earlier. Select the delete on reboot option. Then enter the full path to the DLL that is part of this infection into the Full path of file to delete field.
C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\srvpc.dll
Now hit delete (the red circle with the white X)

and reboot

Now post a fresh HJT log and lets see how we did, MrC

We'll have to get this manually.

Only proceed with this if you are sure this file exists:

C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\srvpc.dll

Thanks for the quick reply. I looked in that specific folder and I did not see that file. I also ran a "search" and it didn't find any files by that name on my computer.

Does this mean I shouldn't go ahead with the manual removal? The file still does appear in my hijack this log, but I don't see it anywhere else.

Make sure you can see hidden files, don't use the search feature, manually look for it.

Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now manually look for it.

Let me know, MrC
I did everything you said, as far as making the folders visible, but I still couldn't find the file in that location. Should I proceed?
No, we may just be dealing with some registry entries.

Let try this first……

Download: Registry Search Tool from this link (it's about half way down the page)
http://billsway.com/vbspage/

Unzip and double-click "RegSrch.vbs"
Note: if your Antivirus or another program prompts about running a ".vbs" file, allow the script to run

In the open field copy and paste srvpc.dll then hit OK

Post the results back here.

MrC
I ran the file and it found 3 instances of srvpc.dll. Here is the log of the results: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{7697DB96-5DA3-44F2-BC97-AD35E5F4CEDC}\InprocServer32] @="C:\\WINDOWS\\Fonts\\srvpc.dll" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\srvpc] "DllName"="C:\\WINDOWS\\Fonts\\srvpc.dll" [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2938769815-2776540853-3063532966-1006\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603] "000"="srvpc.dll"
OK, start the procedure and see if find "srvpc.dll". If you don't find it then stop the procedure, if you do please continue on.

If it doesn't exist, I'll get you a reg fix.
Thanks, MrC
I did everything you said and it looks to me like I got rid of the files! I hope so, at least. Thanks so much for all your help. Hopefully this'll improve the performance of my computer.

Here's my newest hijack this log. Thanks again.

Don't open e-mail attachments without first scanning them with an up-to-date
anti virus program, even after doing that I would be very careful. Don't click on any executables in e-mails or any other links that you're not sure of.
Watch your surfing habits, don't click on or download anything you're not sure of. Don't install a program that hasn't been recommended by a reputable organization.
