Looking for help, I keep getting pop-ups, I'm getting attacked by Registry Cleaner ads and my Google and other websites show up in a strange font.

Download this tool: LQfix.zip
Unzip it to your Desktop.
Don't use it yet!

IMPORTANT! Reboot the computer into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter').

Doubleclick LQfix.bat that you saved on your desktop before.
A doswindow will open and close again, that is normal.

Reboot into normal mode and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Thank you. The pop-ups are gone now. Here's the new log:

NOTE
I noticed you've got an entry of wheatherbug present in your log… Do you use it on purpose or haven't you ever heard of it? If not, check it too in HiJackThis… If you do have it on purpose, decide if it's worth keeping it… It's considered malware…

2. Close all other windows and browsers, and hit Fix Checked.

3. Reboot into safe mode by tapping F8 frequently during bootup.
Make sure your settings allow you to view "Hidden files". Open up any explorer windows and click on "Tools" => "Folder Options" => "View" and be sure to check off "Show Hidden Files and Folders".

4. Delete, in safe mode:
Folders
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Program Files\AWS << folder, only if you've fixed the O4/O9 from Weatherbug, see the note above
C:\Program Files\Common Files\updater

5. Reboot into normal mode, make a new HijackThis log, and post it here :)
Hans,
Thank you so much for your help on all this. I did all the steps you suggested including deleting weather bug (I was using it, but I don't need any malware). I did get a message after signing back on that I needed to restart my computer again … not sure what that means.
Anyway, here is my updated HijackThis log. Thanks again.

Looks good! :)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers real-time protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
I also suggest that you delete your Temp folders regularly. Use CleanUp! to do this automatically for you!
