Hello Billy, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. :( Sorry to have to tell you this but you are infected with trojan.vundo.b. This is what it looks like in your log:
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {44240BB5-BD7D-4D49-A1AA-8AB0F3D3CB44} - C:\WINDOWS\system\iisole.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: iisole - C:\WINDOWS\system\iisole.dll

This trojan can not be removed with HijackThis. Symantec recently updated their trojan removal tool to include this trojan. The problem is most folks will not take serious how fast this trojan updates and the importance of following the Symantec instructions exactly. You must print these instruction and commit yourself to following them or you are wasting your time. When they say safe mode, they mean safe mode, all internet connection must be removed, unplug the modem, disconect the cables, if the instruction are not follow the fix has no chance of working. You can run HJT in safe mode, I suggest you run the tool, then look at a log, you know now what the trojan looks like in the log. If it is still there, try the tool again, and perhaps again. Once the trojan has been removed, then staying in this same thread post a new log and we will clean up what is left. All that is available beside this tool is a very complicated manual fix.

Good luck, here is the link to your instructions and the removal tool.

also just curious what the effects of that virus would be??? thanks again

~Bill :wavey:
Hello Bill,

where would i have picked that up from? so i can prevent from getting it again

Little is know yet about this trojan but one thing for sure is the reason it was placed there. Legitimate business (the popups you saw) pay malware writers to do this without your permission and until computer users start screaming to their lawmakers and the penalties get severe enough, along with the "legit" businesses being identified so they can be boycotted, this is going to continue. In my way of looking at it this is the same thing as invading your home…breaking and entry…and should be treated as such. This is not some young hacker, this is about cold hard cash. The link below might shine a little more light on the subject and a google search may turn up some information? This is indeed a BHO and the fact that the malware writers also entered the .dll into winlogon is what makes it so hard to remove.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen…an.vundo.b.html My guess is it comes from the same nice folks who send all Virtumonde and I wish I could tell you more.

i did clean out some of the things with highjack in wich i knew what they were… but im still learning!!!

Here is an excellant tutorial that will help with HJT: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial42.html
I should also mention that several forums have free training if you are ever interested. Removing malware from my own computer interested me in this several years ago. I caution you to always seek expert help if you ever have doubt about proceeding with something.

also just curious what the effects of that virus would be??? thanks again

This is not a virus but rather a trojan, here is a little basic information to help you: http://www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/Internet/2004/virus.asp

We have a little cleanup to do, the trojan was far the worse, most of this cleanup is optional. To help you decide, I will indicate the optional items and give you links from CastleCops to help you decide. You make take some time to review the information as nothing is pressing or malignant. Please start like this:

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

2) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

(might be good to scan for hidden trojans, will take some time but since you had a trojan infection I suggest it)
Let's check for trojans in case any are hiding, run this free online scan, scan the whole system and set it to clean or fix anything it locates. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Bill, if you have no resource issues that is fine, but you do have programs running at every boot that could be started via Start/AllPrograms. Look at the ones like this: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: Use google to search the executable for information. Don't turn off any security programs, allow them to run.

Since you basically have a clean computer I am giving your this information now. If you wish to post another log for a final check, that also is your option.
Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

If you completed these instructions while removing the trojan, there is no need to do it again unless the trojan scan turns up something. When you are completely finished with the removal procedure and are satisfied that the threat has been removed follow these instruction:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen…src=sec_doc_nam
Results from the Trojan Scanner…..

C:\Documents and Settings\Billy\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\file\Dummy.class-71bf1214-10164973.class
Diagnosis is… Trojan.java.ClassLoader.Dummy.d

Theres 27 cookies that came up as well… and my mIRC came up but says its not a threat
Also C:\windows\wt\wtvh.dll …Diagnosis is AdWare.WildTangent.b

I could not find a clean up button? I clicked to download the program but it was $$ and in a different language lol… I aint so good with that! ALSO on a side not… that Trojan that came up… I had that not long ago at all… AVG would pick it up but seems it was unable to do anything about it… I followed the folder and deleted it myself and it seemed to have been gone and all my AVG scans come up clean? So yea… I guess a bit more help there would be great!

Hi Bill, The a2 program also gives you are trial version, but not to be concerned we will use another one. I want to say that the log is clean. You will see these programs suggested time and again in the all clean information I gave you. Download these two programs make sure you update them and run them as suggested in the tutorials. Have them remove any bad stuff the find including all cookies. When you post next, tell me of anything these programs located and could not remove. Exact name and location please.
Spybot

Ad-aware
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial48.html

This is a free trial version of Trojan Hunter, please download and update then run it having it remove anything it locates. Let me know what it found if anything.

Bill, also make sure all quarantine areas of any programs you are running are emptied, that all temp files and your Prefetch folder have been emptied.

Please make sure you are reviewing the all clean information as there are other suggested programs you will want to run.
Post a new log along with your comments from the scans and the information I asked for. Thanks…Phil

thanks again for all the replys… been a real help  :wavey: B)
Hi Bill, Log looks clean, Trojan Hunter report is clean. I was surprised Ad-aware did not find more cookies, not that cookies are a big thing, some are necessary for certain security type accounts and passwords. Did you make sure to update both programs before running them? All security programs I know have some sort of quarantine, backup or restore feature, even HijackThis. In Ad-aware it's a guarantine list, and I usually clean it out on a regular basis. In Spybot it is the Recovery area. Spybot backs up what is removed and you should clean this on a regular basis. I clear the old backups and quarantine the next time I run. Other programs like antivirus and scans you use often see items that are quarantined or in System Restore. If a scan shows something look carefully to see where it is located. This will tell you if it is quarantined within one of your programs. Make sure you spend a little time in the tutorials for your security programs to give you a better understanding of how to maximize there use. Good Luck and safe surfing Phil Skelley
i run ad aware often…. that could be why there wasnt much… i did update all 3 programs befor running… also on the ad aware is it safe to delete the windows update or am i doin the right thing by keepin it on there? they only pop up from time to time… thanks again for all the help
Hey Bill, I run Ad-aware SE Personal on three machines and have for about six years or so and I have never seen that message. Any possibility you could post the message you get? I would have to look at it. I should also mention there are some good Ad-aware support forums available. This is just one of those. I hope this helps, Phil

its usally shows up as winupdates and comes up as malware…. maybe we got rid of it in the processes that we have been goin threw… ill scan the comp serveral times in the next few days see if i can get it to pop up again… if i do… you will be the first to know :P ~Bill :wavey:
Hey Bill, here is lots of information about that worm:

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navc…en&q;=Winupdates

For your information I see it a lot as an ActiveX so make sure you look at this information about setting your ActiveX controls to keep these thing from getting in via a Downloaded Program File:

You also have this link earlier. Things have gotten so bad I understand you can just pass your mouse over a banner a bad site to get an infection. Here is a little information for you:
