Hello everyone!. Everytime I open IE, ipassist.biz will be my new start page. Its obviously a total scam. It will also select random text on websites and turn them into hyperlinks that also are directed to this site. I've already emailed the owner of the domain that I'm not pleased with his handywork. This will take a few steps.

Step # 1

Please download and run CWShredder. Make sure that all browser windows are closed with the exception of Cwshredder and choose FIX.

Step #2

Please download and run Spybot & AdAware SE Then follow the instructions in the link below to run.

REBOOT

Step # 3

Then do a virus scan here >>> Trend Micro

Reboot and post a new HiJackThis log by clicking on "ad reply" at the bottom right.

Hiya Siggyx, here is a brief run down what has happened:

STEP 1: CWS was not found.
STEP 2: Wild Tangent (10 entries) deleted, DyFuCa (1 entry) deleted, ISearchTech,PowerScan (1 entry) deleted, CoolWWWSearch.Yexe (1 entry) NOT DELETED (error crashes SB-S&D).
STEP 3: Online virus scan freezes and produces nothing.

Ok no problem that was not unexpected.

You will need to disable Spyware Doctor.

Scan with hijackthis and put a heck beside these lines and choose FIX

Then boot to safe mode (tap f8 while bios loads) look for and delete this folder if present

Ok, boot to safe mode.

Disable Spyware Doctor.

Open Cwshredder and click on FIX

Then scan with hijackthis and put a heck beside these lines and choose FIX

1. Deleted and Disabled Spyware Doctor.
2. Ran CWShredder and CWS was not found.
3. R0 - ipassist.biz was not in the list. All others (R1, 04's, 09) was deleted.
4. The file you wanted me to delete in the directory was not there.

No problems at all since the last post I did. Thanks for taking the time to help me thru the steps Siggyx. I appriciate it very much. When I first ran SB-S&D, and it couldn't find it, I thought for sure I had to reformat my h/d. But with alittle searching on the web, I found this website and I feel 100% secure now even if a virus or trojan slip by my firewall or virus detectors. If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. In my signature below is also a tutorial on how to harden IE, a good read and very helpful to stop these things in the future. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on.
