hi Alan,

Thanks for the welcome and the walkthrough. My HijackThis and AboutBuster log are below. The only oddity I encountered was that none of these files:

C:\WINDOWS\tdnwt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\D3DQ32.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\oztyfmt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\JAVAUU32.EXE

were anywhere within my computer - even when I set the folders to show all filetypes.

Otherwise, all went well. Please review the following and let me know if there's any more to do.

Many thanks,
Frank

I see that you are running two anti-virus programs on your computer. This is not recommended as they can conflict with each other. I suggest going into the options and setting only one of them to run at startup. You can still update the other and scan with it if you choose.

Step 1
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)

O15 - Trusted IP range: 206.161.125.149

Optional items to check with HijackThis for improved performance.
This is a registration reminder that is used by a number of different companies. It is not needed and some experts think that it reports back to the company about your computer, so I suggest fixing it.
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 2
Download: DelDomains.inf
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

To use: Close all open browsers
Right-click DelDomains.inf and select: Install

Note: this will remove all entries in the Trusted Zone and Restricted Zone. You will need to immunize again with Spybot S&D, and re-install Ie-Spyad if you use these programs.

Step 3
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.
Hi Alan,

Once again, thanks for the assist.

I encountered no complications with your latest set of instructions.

Regarding the two anti-virus programs: I would love to uninstall McAfee, but have thus far had no success. Any suggestions therein? Or would that be a different post if not forum?

Thank you much,

Here is a link that may help in uninstalling McAfee.

I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - Safer alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

Here are three very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3
AdAware SE v1.05
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D and Adaware SE
A2 Squared

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
