Welcome to the forum.

You AboutBlank isn't showing right now, but you need to get a free virus scan and run AdAware - links bekow:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp <—virus scan, make sure you set it to autoclean.

http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/spybot-adaware.html <—AdAware download and tells you how to set it up and run it

Do this also:
Download CW-Shredder, hit the FIX button and let it run and fix what it finds.
http://tools.radiosplace.com/CWShredder.exe

Do those three things, reboot a few times and post a fresh HJT log when the AB is present. MrC

=================================================

I see you have another log posted, is this the same computer or a different one??
Hey thanks for your help. Yes I do have another log posted but it's a different computer than this one. I had posted them together but received a reply to post them separately. These are two computers that are networked at my boss's house and I'm trying to help. The other computer acts as the "server" and it's really having trouble with aboutblank. Before I posted these logs, I ran McAfee first and then adaware on this computer. I also ran spybot before hijackthis. McAfee found nothing but I think it's out of date. I'll go to the antivirus you suggest. The other computer has norton. I'll follow your instructions and let you know. If you can help with the other computer that's great. If not I understand your time is limited and maybe someone else will reply. Once again, I really appreciate your help.
Hello adamsgillian,

I will be taking over for MrCharlie to help you out. This is one of the most severe infections to remove that we see these days. I do not believe that the steps you have taken so far have removed about blank from this computer. I will be answering your other log as well. Please do the following steps in order.:

Step#1

The first thing I need you to do is download the file from here:

Getservice.zip

Extract the file to the c:\ drive. Then navigate to the c:\getservices and double-click on the getservices.bat file. A notepad will open up. Please paste the contents of that notepad as a reply to this post.

Step#2

This infection continues to reinstall itself through a hidden dll which we have to find and remove.

1. Please download DllCompare
( The Screenshot will show you how the program will look when it starts.)

2. Start the Program with its default settings and put a check mark in the include subdirectories. Click the Run Locate.com and wait until the scan says complete.

3. Click the Compare button to start the next process.

4. Files in the upper portion have been verified to "exist", Files in the bottom section were not able to be accessed. Very few files should be listed in the bottom section when the Compare scan is complete.

5. Click on each of the listed entries in the lower section to select them. Right-click on the file and use the Option Rescan screenshot.

6. This will cause Windows Find to see if the file does exist, and then it will be removed from the list (to reduce the number of identified files) screenshot

7. Click the Make a Log of what was found button, and post the log here in this thread using Add Reply to receive further instructions.

Step#3

Please post those two log files in this thread using Add Reply and I will give you further instructions.
Here are the two log files you asked for. Let me know what to do next when you can. Thanks again for all of your help! Hello adamsgillian,

It appears that this computer is not as badly infected as the other one. We should be able to clean it out without too much trouble. If you have used these programs in the past then I will ask you to use them again making sure that they are setup according to the instructions and are handled in this order.

Step#1

Please download and open the following zip file. Double-click on the file inside the zip and when it asks you if you would like to merge the file into your registry, please answer yes. This will make sure all files are visible on your computer.
http://www.davehigham.zen.co.uk/downloads/xphidden.zip

Step#2

1. Please Download the most recent version of CWShredder, from CWShredder.exe Download into it's own folder.

2. Check for Updates

3. CLOSE ALL WINDOWS except CWShredder

4. Run the program by clicking 'fix' and letting it fix all CWS remnants.

5. REBOOT to finish the removal and clear memory.

Step#3

1. Download and Install Ad-Aware SE, keeping the default options. However, some of the settings will need to be changed before your first scan

2.Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE

3. Click on the‘world’ icon at the top right of the Ad-Aware SE window and let AdAware SE update the reference list for the adware and malware.

4. Once the update is finished click on the ‘Gear’ icon (second from the left at the top of the window) to access the preferences/settings window

1) In the ‘General’ window make sure the following are selected in green:
*Automatically save log-file
*Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
*Safe Mode (always request confirmation)

Under Definitions:
*Prompt to udate outdated definitions - set the number of days

2) Click on the ‘Scanning’ button on the left and select in green :

Under Driver, Folders & Files:
*Scan Within Archives

Under Select drives & folders to scan -
*choose all hard drives

Under Memory & Registry: all green
*Scan Active Processes
*Scan Registry
*Deep Scan Registry
*Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
*Scan my Hosts file

3) Click on the ‘Advanced’ button on the left and select in green:

Under Shell Integration:
*Move deleted files to recycle bin

Under Logfile Detail Level: (all green)
*include addtional object information
*DESELECT - include negligible objects information
*include environment information

Under Alternate Data Streams:
*Don't log streams smaller than 0 bytes
*Don't log ADS with the following names: CA_INOCULATEIT

4) Click the ‘Tweak’ button and select in green:

Under the ‘Scanning Engine’:
*Unload recognized processes during scanning
*Scan registry for all users instead of current user only

Under the ‘Cleaning Engine’:
*Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

Under the Log Files:
*Include basic Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Please do not check or make green: Include Module list in logfile

5. Click on ‘Proceed’ to save the settings.

6. Click ‘Start’

*Choose:'Perform Full System Scan'
*DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.

7. Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.

8. If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window

9. Save the log file when it asks and then click ‘finish’

10. REBOOT to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE found

Step#4

Please use CTRL-ALT-DEL to open Task Manager and End Process on the following file:
C:\WINDOWS\lsasss.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\PDSched.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\systems.exe

Step#5

1. Scan again with HijackThis (ALL WINDOWS CLOSED EXCEPT HJT)

2. Put a check mark beside each of the following entries in the HJT window
**question - is http://smbusiness.dellnet.com/ the normal setting for the start and search pages in IE of this computer ?**

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lsasss.exe] C:\WINDOWS\lsasss.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Ncao] C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Application Data\urpo.exe

3. Click 'fix checked

4. REBOOT to finish removing the entries into SAFE MODE by tapping F8 repeatedly while booting up

5. In Safe Mode DELETE the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\lsasss.exe

C:\??\PDSched.exe <– best idea is to search for it

C:\??\systems.exe <– best idea is to search for it

C:\PDSched.exe <– as above there may only be one of these or several

C:\systems.exe <– as above there may be one or se

C:\PDSched.exe <–as above

C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Application Data\urpo.exe <–there should only be folders inside Application Data, no files at all.

6. REBOOT into normal mode

Step#6

Please do at least one online AV scan from the links at the bottom of this post. The best way to complete them is to run Panda first and allow it to fix all that it finds and then run Trend Micro and allow it to fix all that it finds

Step#7

1. please SCAN again with HJT and

2. POST a new log file here in this thread using 'Add Reply' to see what is left to clean.
I am trying to work on your step #6. You referrence "links at the bottom of this post" and I don't see any links. Can you help? Gillian

Hi Gillian

Step#1

1. Please download Stinger a standalone AV tool for some of the more common worm infections seen these days. It is from McAfee AV products.
2. When prompted, choose to save the file to a convenient location on your hard disk (such as your Desktop folder).
3. When the download is complete, navigate to the folder that contains the downloaded Stinger.exe file, and run it. WindowsME/XP users read this first.
4. The Stinger interface will be displayed.
