A Searchmaid toolbar appeared on my IE Explorer. I located a Virtual Maid folder on my Program Files, within which was an uninstall file. This appears to have removed the toolbar.
Upon starting IE, my home page is continuously replaced with the following URL: "http://www.searchmaid.com/", which is made to resemble an XP contol panel. This is also accompanied by an alert popup, stating:
"Attention! Your PC is infected with spyware…
… Click 'OK' button to get list of available AntiSpyware products."
At first, IE would crash continuously after a number of seconds. This however, seems to have stopped occuring since I performed the unistall of the virtual maid (though I do not trust the spyware would come with an unistaller that would actually fully uninstall itself!).
I have read through some previous postings, and seen a couple of searchmaids, but all hijack logs are different, so I chose to submit my own rather than proceed as per advice intended for another.
I am also aware that my Microsoft Updates are out of date, and will apply them after this fix (advice I also read in another posting).
My HijackThis log is provided below. Volunteers like yourselves are a godsend. Thanks in advance (and expectation!).
