Hello manasta,

It's important to have Hijackthis in its very own folder. It will make backups of any fixes we make and those could be lost if there not in the same folder with HJT. Just go to MY COMPUTER and open up your C:\ drive, on the left you will see an option to MAKE A NEW FOLDER. then just name the folder Hijackthis, then go to your DOCUMENTS AND SETTING FOLDER where you have Hijackthis and right click on HIJACKTHIS.EXE and copy it, then go to your newHijackthis folder on your C:\ drive and paste it in.

I see some malware installed on your system, before we get into removing items manualy, we need to clean your system as much as posible before hand. I would like you to use the links at the bottom of my post and download and install both SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY 1.3 and also AD-AWARE SE PERSONAL

Just follow all the defaults during installation. Here are some more tips on running both programs.

* Install Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3

* If you have the older version 1.2, remove it via ADD-REMOVE PROGRAMS.

Go to START/ CONTROL PANEL/ PERFORMANCE AND MAINTAINENCE/ ADD-REMOVE
PROGRAMS
scroll to that program and click on REMOVE.

* During Installation, just follow all the defaults.

* Go to MODE and click on ADVANCED MODE.

* Then to SETTINGS / IGNORE PRODUCTS and put a checkmark in DSO EXPLOITS.

* Then to SETTINGS / FILE SETS and take the checkmark out of USAGE TRACKS.

* Then to TOOLS/ HOSTS FILE and then on the top click
on ADD SPYBOT S&D HOSTS FILES.

* Then check for UPDATES.

* Then to Immunize. then up at the top by the GREEN SIGN, click on IMMUNIZE.

* Then go to the top to SPYBOT and run a FULL SYSTEM SCAN.

* Then to FIX PROBLEMS and fix all it finds.

Then RE-BOOT your computer.

Now for AD-AWARE SE PERSONAL

AD-AWARE SE PERSONAL 1.05

If you have an older version of AD-AWARE You can remove via
the ADD-REMOVE PROGRAMS IN THE CONTROL PANEL

* During installation, follow all the defaults.

* Start the program and CHECK FOR UPDATES

* Take the checkmark out of SEARCH FOR NEGLIGIBLE RISK FILES

* Choose PERFORM FULL SYSTEM SCAN

* Run the scan

* When it is done, RIGHT CLICK ONE ONE OF THE ENTRIES/ SELECT ALL/ NEXT
and let it remove all that if finds.

You also have Incredimail installed, this is your call , but free programs like this are fun but they contain some not so fun stuff.. I would suggest going to ADD-REOMOVE PROGRAMS in the CONTROL PANEL and uninstalling it, but if you like it, we can try to work around it.

Then re-boot your PC and run HJT and post a new log please.

Hello Ken545,

I did the following:

Installed, Updated and Executed Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3

Two problems could not be fixed: TBPS.EXE and PIB.EXE

Rebooted PC

Installed, Updated and Executed AD-AWARE SE PERSONAL 1.05

Same problems could not be fixed (located in C:\My Program Files\Toolbar\): PIB.EXE, TOOLBAR.DLL and TBPS.EXE

Rebooted PC

Uninstalled Incredimail

Rebooted PC

After rebooting, I noticed in Task Manager that TBPS.EXE and PIB.EXE were running. Tried to "End Process" for each several times, but processes started up again each time.

Rebooted in Safe Mode with Command Prompt, navigated in DOS to TOOLBAR subdirectory and deleted TBPS.EXE, and then also deleted the TOOLBAR subdirectory.

Rebooted in Normal Mode and ran HIJACKTHIS … following is the log file:

Manasta
manasta,

Your log looks clean, you did a good job !! WELL DONE.

Here are some additional things that I suggest you do to keep all this garbage from installing in the first place.

* Installed SP2, thats great, but don't forget to check for WINDOWS UPDATES in the future. You can go to START/ CONTROL PANEL/ SECURITY CENTER and make sure that both WINDOWS UPDATES and FIREWALL are on. If you want to install a third party firewall, you can go here and install the free one from ZONELABS http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_desc…,RSS,RSS,00.asp

* Keep your ANTI - VIRUS SOFTWARE up to date and run it on a regular basis.

* You can go here and download and install CCleaner, just run it with all the defaults. It does a good job of keeping your system clean of all the temp files and such. Run it every so often.
http://www.ccleaner.com/

* Clean out all temp folders in SAFEMODE
Go to START/ RUN and type in %temp% and delete all that it finds, you can run this one as well %windir%\temp

* Re-boot

* Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)

1. Turn off System Restore.

* On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.

* Click Properties.

* Click the System Restore tab.

* Check Turn off System Restore.

* Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.

Click Properties.

Click the System Restore tab.

UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.

Click Apply, and then click OK.

* Don't forget to go back and re-enable to hide System Files.

SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS

* Click on MY COMPUTER

* Then on your C: Drive

* Then to TOOLS/ FOLDER OPTIONS/ VIEW

* Choose the radio button to SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS

* Take the checkmark out of HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES

* Then APPLY/ OK

* Don't forget to reverse this once your computer is clean

* Follow the my links and download and install SPYWARE BLASTER , don't forget to check for updates and a regular basis.

* You can also install SPYWARE GUARD.

That's it, glad we got you clean. Thanks for using TOM COYOTE

Ken545
Ken545, Thanks for all of your help and advice … I couldn't have done it without your assistance. I will certainly follow your suggestions to help prevent a recurrence in the future. Thanks again :wavey: and best regards, Manasta
