After running Adaware and still having browser hijack to daosearch.com, browser crash, hijacked google results (I found a log of a massive download of keywords onto my computer), and sudden rash of pop-ups - all this began after i went off the beaten path on the web one night last week and was infested with a dialler and all sorts of other junk. Below is HT log, i only removed obvious website BHO's. Not sure what else to remove but can see 'daosearch' is still in my browser.
Your help is much appreciated.

Hello cperrius

There is a great deal to do here, so please print this and use the printout as a checklist, to avoid missing anything or making any errors.

For the well being of your PC, I would suggest your first action after your PC is cleaned up, would be to Microsoft, to download all Critical Updates.

The following will link you to the Microsoft update site.
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5co…t.aspx?ln=en-us

*********************************************************************
Please run the HSFix, Reboot, run it again, copy the file and Reboot.
(Please note, this must be ran twice, with a reboot in between and one after)

You have a Horseserver infection which requires some tools to get rid of.
  • First, download HSFix from here
  • After it is downloaded, create a new folder on your desktop called "HSFix" and extract all the files into the newly created folder.
  • Next, download CleanUp! Install it, but do not run it yet.
  • Boot into safe mode: Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.
  • Locate the HSFix folder on your desktop, open it, and double-click "hsfix.bat"
  • A log will be produced which you can close out of.

    Next:

Please go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and Uninstall/Remove:

    MyWay\myBar or any variant

    BroadJump

    Security iGuard

    SearchUpgrader

    Next:

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

    O2 - BHO: myBar BHO - {0494D0D1-F8E0-41ad-92A3-14154ECE70AC} - C:\Program Files\MyWay\myBar\1.bin\MYBAR.DLL (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Please set your computer to show all files.

    * Double-click My Computer.
    * Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
    * Click the View tab.
    * Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
    * Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
    * Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
    * Click Apply, and then click OK.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders in DARK, and delete them: Please be cautious and be sure you are deleting the correct entries. If in doubt, right click the file to be deleted and verify it is not a Microsoft file. If still in doubt, do not delete it.
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\paytime.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\angelex.exe

C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services\{B292A1A3-C2C0-469C-80CA-CA238D194BF2}\SVCHOST.EXE(Be very careful deleting this, to be sure it is NOT Microsoft)

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdntvol.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\sfcv_32.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\r?gedit.exe(check this one closely)

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\gbyyutf.dll(if found)

    C:\Program Files\MyWay
    C:\Program Files\Security iGuard
    C:\Program Files\BroadJump
    C:\Program Files\Visual Networks\Visual IP InSight\SBC\IPClient.exe
    C:\Program Files\Common files\SearchUpgrader

    C:\DOCUME~1\SAMIRA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\keep.exe

    C:\WINDOWS\wdskctl.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\zeta.exe

    Reboot and enable hidden files.
  • Run CleanUp! and let it clean your computer of temp files. Decline when it asks you to log off.
  • Restart your computer into normal mode and run at least one of the following free, online virus scans:
    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co…n_principal.htm
    http://www3.ca.com/threatinfo/virusinfo/scan.aspx
  • Restart your computer one last time and post a new HijackThis log, as well as the HSFix log which is located at C:/hslog.txt
Thank you so much for your generous help. After my post I found that I could not download anything, when I hit download links I was taken to the hijack daosearch.com page. Then I tried to install MS updates, and that wound up crashing the computer and it crashed repeatedly on restart. So I've had my documents and programs copied, the HD wiped clean, and then copied everything back on and installed firewall. thanks again for your help.
Hello cperrius

I'm sorry we couldn't help this time.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Download the new Ad-Aware SE version, and follow the instructions on how to do a full scan: http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=11150
-reboot after using Ad-Aware SE. Also while there get the VX2 plugin and follow the instructions to run it also.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place?
