Please help. I have three items on my pc that I can't seem to get rid of. I am running Webroot Spy Sweeper and Lava Ad-Aware, but neither can clean them out. I've tried booting into safe mode and running both, which seems to clear them, but when logging back in under normal mode they reappear. They come up in Spy Sweeper with the following descriptions:
Adware - CWS-AboutBlank
Trojan Horse - Spooner-A
Adware - Startpage

Here is my HijackThis log:

I appreciate any help I can get on this.

Thanks.
Move Hijackthis off your desktop (extract from zip)into a permanent folder. Example:
c:\program files\hijackthis\hijackthis.exe

This will allow backups to be made and saved By hijackthis in case something goes wrong.

Place a check next to the following entries, then close all open windows except hijackthis and click fix.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

O18 - Filter: text/plain - {BEA3F6AE-3578-45FC-80FE-5175CAA31582} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\dcbo.dll

Then reboot into safe mode and delete these files.
C:\WINDOWS\ALCMTR.EXE
C:\DOCUME~1\TODDAD~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll

You may have to enable hidden files to find all the files.

Then reboot and run another hijackthis and post your new log here.
Thank you.

I followed your instructions and here are some notes about what happened when I rebooted after deleting the two files:
A. My virus program (Trend Micro's PCcillin) identified a startpage virus and claimed it successfully cleaned it.
B. An error message popped up about a missing file, but disappeared on its own after 10 seconds or so, before I got a good look at what it was about.
C. When Spy Sweeper launched, it still popped up with the "sp" message, which I believe is the Spooner-A trojan horse, but not certain.
D. I have been getting a phony looking warning popup screen every 10 minutes or so that reads something about my PC being infected with spyware. This is still happening after the changes to date.

Copy the following bold text into Notepad.
Name the file Appinit.bat
Save as type All Files
Save on the Desktop.

Reg save "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows" windows1.hiv
ren windows1.hiv windows.txt

Double click on Appinit.bat
This will create a file on the desktop named windows.txt
(the text in the file will look strange, don't worry about it, just make sure you copy the whole thing)

Then download this program.

http://downloads.subratam.org/DllCompare.exe

Open the program and click the "Run Locate.com" button.
Then click the "Compare" button (this will take a few minutes)
When it finishes click the "Make Log…." button.

Copy and paste the log along with the eontents of windows.txt to your next post.

Looks like we have it this time.

Run another hijackthis scan. Place a check next to the following entries, then close all other windows and click the fix button.

Then reboot and run another hijackthis scan and post your new log here.
Good to hear we're getting close…I really appreciate your help.

Here is the HJT log.

Also, when I rebooted, Spy Sweeper's startup shield still came up with the "sp" issue that it says will start when Windows starts (same message that I have seen since being infected). Should I try a scan with Spy Sweeper now?
