Hello,

I have been trying for 2 days now to remove all the adwares/spywares on my laptop without success. I have used Ad-aware, Sypot, Spy Sweeper, CWShredder,…nothing works.

Please help. Thank you.

Here is my Hijack Log:

In the Name column for:

Command Service (cmdService)

It should say: C:\WINDOWS\TWFsbG9yeSBTdHVjaGlu\command.exe

That's how to be sure you have the right one.

Now, click Stop to stop that rogue process.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

Close the services.msc window.

Re-run Hijack This!

Yes it's the same machine but I didn't mean to post this message. I try to remove it but I couldn't find the option. I read your reply to the other post and I will follow your instructions tomorrow (since I don't have the laptop with me) Thank you and sorry.

Almost home….

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O16 - DPF: {CC8C8F4F-F2E8-404B-A43D-5CC57876A008} - ms-its:mhtlm:file://c:\sxtens.mht!http://bar.sxload.com/data/sxt.chm::/sextension.cab

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)
BTW, while waiting for a reply from this forum I run the Ewido Suite to see if it was going to help.
I am now left without a desktop or a taskbar @#@#@

I tried to create and log a new user but it does not change anything.

What is interesting is that when I tried to run windows/explorer.exe, Windows tells me that it can't find the file but it is there. I tried to restore explorer.exe from c:\i386 but it didn't help. It is probably a file needed to run explorer that's missing, but which one?

I am running XP SP1. Do you think that installing SP2 could clear the problem.

Any ideas

Thanx

Egad!!! :o

I would try this:

Create a restore point now.

Go to:

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore

And create a restore point.

That means if "worse comes to worse", you should (theoretically) be able to get back to where your machine is now (good or bad).

Now, go to:

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore

And try to restore your system to a point in time as close to right before you ran Ewido as you can get.

Then reboot.

Post back and let me know how things go.

If your restore was successful, and everything appears to be working (i.e. desktop and taskbar) please post a new Hijack This! log to see if the restore made any malware return.
:)
Download this REG file (shellfix.reg):

shellfix.reg

It contains this data:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"Shell"="explorer.exe"

To execute this file please follow these instructions:
  • Press
  • Select 'Task Manager'
  • Select 'File' menu
  • Select 'New Task'
  • In the opened dialog window input the path to the shellfix.reg
file. For example if the file is on a diskette, input
'A:\shellfix.reg' (without quotes) and press ''
  • Windows will ask you if you want to add information from the
REG file to the Registry, answer 'Yes'
Reboot & see if the things are better.
:)
I'm not real familiar with Ewido, but is there a way to get it to restore all the things it fixed? All the Ewido logs I have looked at always say "xxxx <== cleaned with backup". There has to be a way to get it to use those "backups" to restore things. :)
I finally got my desktop back by removing this reg key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\explorer.exe The only thing now is when I reboot, as soon as the desktop is displayed I get the message: Error loading AUNPS2.DLL (this file was removed by Ewido) Any idea? Thanx
