Well, two steps forward, one back.

Not only is the Uninstall_TBPS program not being deleted from HJT, but the
System32 window opens on boot-up. Not sure what that means. Here's latest HJT:

Any suggestions you care to make for protection against this happening again would be appreciated and followed. SP2 crashed my machine so I'm not running it currently. Do I dare try it again?

My sincerest thanks for all you help. My next action on this happy computer will be a stop at PayPal to show my gratitude.

Fidoux
Thats a clean log! Good Job!!

How's your computer running now?

My next action on this happy computer will be a stop at PayPal to show my gratitude.

TomCoyote deeply thanks you for this! It's greatly appreciated.

As far as suggestions go….

Don't worry too much about SP2, I have a system that won't accept it either. It likes SP1 just fine and all other updates… just doesn't like SP2. As long as you are getting the other updates, you should be ok.

But… you absolutley NEED some form of Anti-Virus protection installed. Whether you go out and buy a product or download a free version… install some protection!!!!

Some good free scanners are AVG Personal, avast! 4 Home Ed., e Trust EZ AntiVirus has a free year trial, and BitDefender Free Ed. to name a few. A google search will bring back some hits for ya.

Along with Ad-Aware and Spybot, I'm going to recommend you download and install SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and IE-SPYAD. You can grab them from the links in my sig. The programs are free, can be updated(so remember to do this), and will help a lot in preventing this from happening again.

A firewall of some form or another would be prudent as well. I'm sure you've heard of ZoneAlarm… hint, hint. :D

You may also want to visit the links in my sig titled Understanding Spyware and How'd I get Infected… some good info for you.

Remember to keep your protections programs updated, scan often, and…

Surf Safe!
The computer is working just like out of the box. The System32 window that was opening on boot up resolved itself after I deleted the last TBPS entry from the registry. Prior to the SP2 upgrade crashing my system, I was running the McAffee suite of protection and it was doing ok. After the crash, it would no longer update so I cancelled it. Now, after reading your links, I'm going to install SpywareBlaster and ZoneAlarm. I really hope the folks coming to this site realize what a significant problem Internet users face with the whole "crapware" problem and the equally significant resource this site provides in relief of same. $$uppport this site!!!! Thanks, 'KotaGuy Fidoux
Good to hear! Glad I could be of help to ya :D Don't forget to put some form of AntiVirus Protection on as well. If you need us again… you know where to find us! Surf Safe!
