Hi, I have been having trouble with my computer lately. I have run a virus scan from Trend micro and it took care of alot of things. Suggested I download HJT so I did it would not download, did some reading and figured I was having a coolwebsearch problem so did a restore. Then able to download and access HJT, so I then ran a scan and save log so am posting the log to see what you can see. I am not real good at this stuff tho. Also I had Bazooka downloaded and ran that yesterday, it uses ie and that is when I started having trouble so have uninstalled Bazooka. I have McAfee vso, aol spyware, and lavasoft .

Hello again Hilltopsmiler,

Before you run any off the fixes below, you need to disable WINPATROL You can right click the icon on your system tray and click on EXIT.

I would like you to download and run CWShredder. Use the link at the bottom of my post. Download it to your desktop and close all open windows and browsers run the program to Scan and Fix.

Next….

Download Winhelp2002's deldomain.inf to your desktop http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install'
It will not appear to have done anything, thats ok.

***Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE/Spyads, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE/Spyads, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Now run HJT and put a Checkmark in the following entries, close all open windows and browsers and click on FIX CHECKED

You may want to print out these entries as it wil be easier for you to follow.

Thank you for your time.
Hello Hilltopsmiler,

You didn't mention in your post how your system is running after the fix. Please let me know so that we can look into it further if you are still having problems and if not, I want to offer you some free programs to install that will help keep most of the bad guys out.

One for starters is to upgrade to IE 6 . Post back and let me know how you stand.

Ken545
Hilltopsmiler,

You need to run HJT and fix the following entries. Close all open windows and browsers and click on FIX CHECKED

O16 - DPF: {4C226336-4032-489F-9674-67E74225979B} (OTXMovie Class) - http://www.otxresearch.com/OTXMedia/OTXMedia.dll

Then close out HJT, open it again, run it and post a new log please.
Ken545, It seems like my computer is running better and quicker. I am not sure how to go about downloading IE 6.0 , do I need to uninstall the old one and where to download it from. One thing I did notice is I have no windows media player, I have seen a place to download this from though. Also the CWShredder did not find any components of the cool web search. Here is my latest HJT log and again thank you for your time and all your help so far.

You need to go into the Microsoft Site
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downlo…p1/default.mspx

and click on the link to order a CD, it will include the latest Service pack and IE 6 and also Windows Medial Player. It shouldn't take to long to arrive. Just insert it into your CD-Rom drive and it should start the install. No need to uninstall anything before hand.

Just wanted to let you know that you have a file sharing program on your computer (ARES LITE EDITION) This is 100% guaranteed to get you back in trouble.

It's your call but I would suggest uninstalling it via the ADD-REMOVE PROGRAMS in the CONTROL PANEL.

Now that your clean, we need to erase all possible older infected files that may still be lurking on your system.
clean out your TEMP FILES

* This procedure should be run from SAFEMODE for better results.

To Enter SAFEMODE

* Go to START/ SHUT OF YOUR COMPUTER/ RESTART
* As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly, this will bring up a menu.
* Use the UP AND DOWN ARROW KEYS to scroll up to SAFEMODE
* Then press the ENTER KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD

Now, while in SAFEMODE,

* click on START/ RUN , and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This will open up the temp directory that your machine uses. GO TO EDIT/ SELECT ALL and delete all the contents of that folder.
* Do this for each user of your computer.
* Do this same process for %windir%\temp.

NOW RE-BOOT NORMALLY

DELETE TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES

* Open INTERNET EXPLORER
* Click on the TOOLS MENU
* Then INTERNET OPTIONS
* At the GENERAL TAB, (which should be the first tab you are currently on),
* click on the DELETE FILES BUTTON and put a checkmark in DELETE ALL OFFLINE CONTENT.
* Then press the OK BUTTON . This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes.
* When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Now we need to TURN OFF and then TURN BACK ON SYSTEM RESTORE.

This will remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent
any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points
which are likely to be infected)

Turn off System Restore.

* On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* Check Turn off System Restore.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot your System

Turn ON System Restore.

* On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

* Make sure that your ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE is up to date and run a full scan at least once aweek.
* If you want to use a free program, try this one –> http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

You need to run Spybot S&D, and AD-AWARE SE PERSONAL, check for updates and run the scans on a regular basis.

You can download and install SPYWARE BLASTER here.
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
This program doesn't scan your system but sits in the background keeping a lot of the bad guys out. Just keep it updated and enable all protection.

Another alternative is to download ( via my link) FIREFOX BROWSER. This brower is a lot more secure than IE, you can still use IE if you wish with this brower installed.

Here is some reading and advice as to how you got infected in the first place.
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051

Anymore questions, please post back
Ken545, Thank you once again. I run AOL online so if I download and install the Firefox browser will it automatically take over my aol browser? Thanks for all the links and info. Hilltopsmiler, again…….
Hilltopsmiler,

I run AOL online so if I download and install the Firefox browser will it automatically take over my aol browser? Thanks for all the links and info.

No it won't, when you install it and it asks you if you want FireFox to be your default browser, say no and also take put a checkmark in to not ask you again. After you log on to AOL, you will have to minimize the AOL window to keep you connected and then you can just browse with FireFox.

I'm glad that you are on your way to safer surfin. :D

Thank you for using Tom Coyote
Glad to help
