Hijack Log - Please Help!

Hello all,

My IE is acting very strange; first my homepage got reset to res://mshp.dll/index.html#37049 - then I got all these strange sites added to my favourites and advertisements added to my desktop. I also got a new (and unwanted) search tool added to my toolbars labled 'mess acid'.

Something has definantly got into my PC! I followed the instructions at http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/ (which I found to be very helpful). I downloaded the HijackThis.exe and ran the scan - making sure that I did'nt touch or change anything.

The scan produced the following HiJack Log, I would very much appreciate any advice on what I should do now!

I removed the HiJack program from my Desktop, made a new folder in my Program Files then ran the scan from there which produced them following hijack log:

Hello Castor…..we have several issues here…..do the following….


Download CWShredder at http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip Unzip it to a convenient location, run the program and hit FIX (do not just press SCAN).

Reboot……

Do an online virus scan here…….

Trend Micro


Download Spybot from
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download

after installing……hit.."Search for Updates"…..get them all…….(Download Updates)……..then "Check for Problems"…….after the scan is complete..allow Spybot to remove everything listed in RED….


Reboot and post a new Hijack log…..

I followed your advice. My PC is certainly much cleaner now, although the 'mess acid' search/tool bar is still present.

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

Click here, for instructions on how to enable hidden files and folders to be visible. After enabling, reboot into safe mode by tapping F8 after the BIOS has loaded, find and delete the following:

C:\PROGRA~1\browsekeepping\ <– folder
C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\ <– folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xvwizard32.hta
c:\program files\GlobalDialer\ <– folder

Reboot back into normal mode, rescan with HJT and post a new log here for a final check over.

Thanks for the advice, Unfortunately I seem to have trouble rebooting in Safe Mode; When I hit F8 after the BIOS has loaded. I get the three following Safe Mode options: 1) Safe Mode 2) Safe Mode with Networking 3) Safe Mode with Command Propmt I chose 'Safe Mode', then I was presented with the DOS command Propmt. How do I run windows in DOS? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Castor

Selecting the first option should do it. Try deleting them in normal mode - using safe mode is not strictly necessary in every case but I tend to use it as a default. Sometimes however odd things happen like this. Let me know how you get on.

Ok, I booted up Windows in normal mode, I searched for the files/folders you mentioned and here's what I got:

1) C:\PROGRA~1\browsekeepping\ <– folder - found and deleted

2) C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\ <– folder - found and deleted

3) C:\WINDOWS\system32\xvwizard32.hta - file not found when I serached for it

4) c:\program files\GlobalDialer\ <– folder - folder not found when I serached for it.
