Hi hegs7,
Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall (if present):
Quick Search
Before fixing items with Hijack This, you should disable Spyware Guard because it may interfere while fixing items. To disable Spyware Guard, right click on its icon on the takbar, this will open the program, exit from the File menu and confirm that you wish to shut it down.
Then, open Hijack This!, run a scan and check these items:
O3 - Toolbar: QuickSearch SearchBar - {82315A18-6CFB-44a7-BDFD-90E36537C252} - C:\Program Files\QuickSearch\QuickSearchBar3_28.dll
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/282ea52d5ecc61…ip/RdxIE601.cab
If you didn't add this website to your trusted zone, check it. You only add websites to the trusted zone only if you are sure they won't damage your computer. Adding the wrong websites to the trusted zone will damage your computer and open it up for attacks.
O15 - Trusted Zone: www.staples.com
This item is optional. This item belongs to Wild Tangent and I strongly recommend that you check this item.
O16 - DPF: {3A7FE611-1994-4EF1-A09F-99456752289D} - http://install.wildtangent.com/ActiveLaunc…iveLauncher.cab
Now please close all windows and browsers, except HijackThis, and have HijackThis fix them by clicking on Fix Checked.
Then, reboot in Safe mode. To reboot in Safe mode:
Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.
Delete this folder:
C:\Program Files\QuickSearch
Then, delete Temp Files. To delete temp files:
Click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.
This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there.
Do this same process for %windir%\temp.
Then, delete Temporary Internet Files. To delete Temporary Internet Files:
Open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.
Then, reboot (in the normal mode) and post a new log in this thread using [external image: Posted Image] to make sure that the malware items are fixed.

Thank you for your help. I did everything spelled out in your reply EXCEPT the direction to check and remove the line O3-Toolbar:QuickSearchBar The line did not show up on my scan (maybe since I followed your advice and ran ADD/REMOVE on Quick Search before I started anything else.

Your log looks clean
To prevent re-infection in the future:
1.I suggest you download Spyware Blaster to prevent the installation of Spyware in the first place.
2.IE-Spyad puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all and I suggest you download it.
3. I noticed that you do not have a firewall and that makes you vulnerable to Hackers. I recommend you use Zone Alarm or Kerio Firewall
4.I recommend that you read a thead titled So how do I get infected in the first place? by Tony Klien which informs you on how to tighten the security of your PC.

Thanks, tj416, for the help you gave me in reviewing my HJT log.
You mention SPYWAREBLASTER as a possible program that I might be interested in. I have SPYWAREBLASTER installed already.
I have tried a few firewalls, but they all interferred with the running of my computer (some actually made it impossible to do anything without a crash). I will look into the 2 firewalls that you recommended.
Thanks again. I appreciate your advice.
