Help! Computer Still Down

Hi There,

My computer has been a COMPLETE nightmare for about a week. I've d/l stopzilla, Mcafee, Adaware, Spybot, and Norton A/V - all to no avail. I posted a log but have had not even a cursory response. If there is nobody that can provide any insight here, could you provide me with a link to some other forum to try? I'm about at my wits end, and don't know what else to do.

I'd like you to run a couple of programs for me and see if they find anything:

Download FxAgentB.exe from HERE and save it to your desktop. After downloading, double-click the FxAgentB file to run it and the program will scan your entire hard drive - this may take a while. When it is done, it will generate a log file called FxAgentB.log - save that information as you will need to paste it here later. Reboot when done.

Download these two programs:

CW-Shredder

Download and unzip
AboutBuster to a folder. Inside the folder is a readme file that has instructions on the use of the program.
AboutBuster MUST be updated before you use it.
Start AboutBuster, click the update button, check for update, drag the box to the side and hit download updates, close the box . Don't run it yet.
Current reference list # is 23.

Reboot into SafeMode

Run the Shredder:
Hit the FIX button let it run and fix what it finds.

Now run AboutBuster.

Reboot and let me know if any program finds and fixes anything.

Well no luck so far None of the programs found anything

Some times - no news is good news. Those programs I had you run look for the nasty version of this hijacker. Maybe we lucked out here.

Download and unzip the KillBox to a folder.

Make sure you know how to boot into SafeMode

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Now open up the KillBox then copy and paste this in and hit 'delete'

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mcicdb.dll

Next:
Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

Reboot and post a fresh HJT log and lets see how we did, MrC

Hi MrC,

Sorry for the delay, I just got home from work a little while ago. Here's kind of a weird one - when i went to delete the file in kill box it said "file couldn't be found", but its still showing up in the HJT log. Hmm, that's weird…. And several of the files I "checked to be deleted" are now back again??!!

Reboot into safe mode and run this program again:


Download FxAgentB.exe from HERE and save it to your desktop. After downloading, double-click the FxAgentB file to run it and the program will scan your entire hard drive - this may take a while. When it is done, it will generate a log file called FxAgentB.log - save that information as you will need to paste it here later. Reboot when done.

See if it finds anything, MrC

Hi Mr. C,

Ok this is really strange. First of all FxAgentb didn't find anything. Secondly, when I booted into safe mode and ran HJT the files that you indicated to remove weren't listed by HJT. So, I rebooted into "regular" mode and ran HJT. Wallah, the files were there now (insert weird comment here) so I deleted them and here is a fresh log:

Forgot to add one thing: When i hit crtl-alt-delte to check CPU usage, it is usually at 90-100% with services.exe running at 80-85% by itself. Didn't know if that would help….

OK, the log look OK now - Good Job!

"Services.exe" - you do have a lot of services running, just look at the log, they're the 023s. But just to make sure, find services.exe, right click on it and choose properties - just make sure it's from Microsoft.

Don't forget to delete your system restore files and create a new restore point, links below will help.

Don't open e-mail attachments without first scanning them with an up-to-date
anti virus program, even after doing that I would be very careful. Don't click on any executables in e-mails or any other links that you're not sure of.
Watch your surfing habits, don't click on or download anything you're not sure of. Don't install a program that hasn't been recommended by a reputable organization.
