Grandaughter brought her computer to me last night and said it was not getting on the internet anymore. Somewhat of an understatement. :D
Removed about a dozen search programs and shopping helpers, ran online AV scans till I got all of the viruses and trojans sorted out that were found. Ran S&D and Adaware SE and removed what they found (about 1000 files total).
Still getting pop-ups alot. Got a redirect when I tried to download HijackThis but was able to work around and run the file.
Please help if you will.
Thanks in advance.
Slim

Hi welcome to TOM COYOTE FORUMS

You are currently using hijackthis from the desktop. When you do fixes with hijackthis, backups are made and these allow fixes to be reversed in case anything goes wrong. Since you are running hijackthis from desktop, the backup folder can clutter your desktop. Please create a permanent directory on your c: drive say c:\hijackthis and move hijackthis into that directory. Run the program from that directory from now on. More instructions for creating a permanent directory below.
Hold down windows key and press e at the same time. A 'my computer' windows should pop up. Next double click on your local disk (likely to be C:) Right click in the main window(the one on the right) select new then folder. A folder will be created. Rename the folder to hijackthis. Next navigate into the directory that you ran hijackthis. Right click on the hijackthis icon and select cut. Go back into the directory that you just created right click and select paste.

You are not exactly cleaned of virus/trojans yet
Do the following online scans

trendmicro
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
panda scan
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Do you know what the following programs/files are ?
boltzap ——————–located at C:\Program Files\bolt\
hmauyah.exe —————-located at C:\WINDOWS\system32\hmauyah.exe

If yes then exclude all references of it in the following fix
To check navigate to the respective directories, right click on the file and choose properties
Under the version tab, take a look at the company name and other information. If its blank or have some thing you never heard of then its likely to be bad.
hmauyah.exe is likely to be bad
as for boltzap, is it a game or something?
1 more thing, is your Symantec Network Drivers Service still working? The link seems to be broken

First press Alt+Ctrl+Delete keys together to bring up the task manager
Under the process tab,
look for the following process lpqtdfmb.exe and end task on it

Next run HIJACKTHIS, press SCAN and put a CHECK to the following lines. Then CLOSE all other windows including this and press FIX CHECKED

After that you need to REBOOT into safe mode. It Is important that you do so or the fix may not work. Instructions to boot into safe mode here
These may be hidden files. See here for how to show hidden files.
Find and delete the following files
DO NOT WORRY if you do not find them

C:\WINDOWS\System32\lpqtdfmb.exe
C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hmauyah.exe —– Take note of what was written above

and the following folders
C:\Program Files\bolt\ ——— Take note of what was written above
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\ (take note that ~ means that there are more characters inside. This is very likely to be C:\Program Files\Common Files)
C:\Program Files\AdDestroyer\

After that REBOOT scan with hijackthis and
POST a new log in this thread using 'Add Reply'
Thanks for getting back with me so quickly. I ran Panda and Trend Micro scans last night till they came up clean. Will run them again though. The BoltZap was a program that I removed through the Windows Control Panel. Not sure of the other program (hmauyah). The Wintools folder had been deleted completely previously. Can't perform these operations till late tonight or possibly tomorrow but will report back with a new log file. Thanks again, Slim
ok post back when you are ready :wavey: Since you had tried to remove it, you can include boltzap in the fixes below Please take note that i actually edited part of my earlier post. I added something about your hijackthis being on the desktop Happy holidays
Followed your instructions. The NAV looked to be partially removed and was an expired issue. Removed it through Control Panel. The Bolt folder and Addestroyer folders were empty but removed them anyway. lpqtdfmb.exe and hmauyah.exe were present but I deleted them also. Wupdt.exe was gone.

Here is the new HJT log file:

The computer appears to be running much better. I will install a new AV program and make sure she keeps it updated. I still see the Norton Network Drivers Service in limbo but not sure what should be done with it. I will not do anything with it till instructed.

Fred
My apologies …. i should have asked you to get some protection first. :P

Below are links to free antivirus and firewall
Get them first. If you decide to get a paid version then uninstall it. You need the protection now.

You DO NOT have a firewall running a good one can be downloaded here
Zone Alarm
You DO NOT have an anti virus program running a good one can be downloaded here

Run HIJACKTHIS, press SCAN and put a CHECK to the following lines.

O2 - BHO: SDWin32 Class - {A3E6B1B9-A700-43AB-9921-3C12097E1597} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\qsniq.dll

O23 - Service: Symantec Network Drivers Service - Unknown - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe (file missing)

Then CLOSE all other windows including this and press FIX CHECKED

After that you need to REBOOT into safe mode. It Is important that you do so or the fix may not work. Instructions to boot into safe mode here
These may be hidden files. See here for how to show hidden files.
Find and delete the following files

C:\WINDOWS\System32\qsniqc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\guarnset.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hmauyah.exe

After that REBOOT scan with hijackthis and

Thanks for all of your help Lethal. I did download ZoneAlarm and the AVG and have them running. The AVG found 3 Trojan Downloaders that had been missed by multiple scans from Trend, Panda and eVirus scans. I eliminated those too and ran more scans and it looks to be clean. I also have Spybot S&D running and AdAware SE. I will install all available updates to Windows and ask her to keep it updated. Now for my next project is a Win 2000 machine that the owner doesn't know her password or the Admin password and I suspect it is highly laden with malware, Trojans and whatever else lurks out there. I think those were my Christmas presents for this year from the Stepdaughter and Granddaughter. :D Thanks again for your help with this infection. Wishing you and everyone on this site a very Happy New Year. Slim Wouldn't have an idea how to crack into the W2K machine would you? :weee:
