Click here to download the PeperFix tool, save it to your desktop, doubleclick on it, click 'Find and Fix' and reboot if prompted.
Click here to download Ad-Aware SE and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Click "Start", select "Perform Full System scan" and "Next" to start the scan. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".
Reboot when done. Rescan with HJT and post a new log here so that any remnants can be removed manually.
Everything seems to be working fine now. I've did several reboots with no MSIE popups ! Thank you very much for your help. I did a Paypal for you to help express my thanks. Happy Holidays!
I do have one last question that I forgot to ask previously. I get this message from Windows FIrewall when I start my computer:
Windows Firewall has blocked this program:
Name: Support.com Scheduler and Command Dispatcher
Publisher: Support.com, Inc
It asked if I wanted to keep blocking, unblock or ask me later (I chose ask me later). This has always popped up after I upgraded to SP2, which was just Dec 20. I don't think this has anything to do with the MSIE popups but I thought I would ask about it anyway. All of my internet programs seem to be working OK and I can still access all of my on-line gaming (Steam Counterstrike) through my LAN (Linksys router) and cable modem (Motorola Surfboard). I did google searches on the name and publisher and didn't get any negative hits so this may be a valid company tied to one of the programs on my computer. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks again for getting rid of my MISE popup problem.
Additional info on Support.com: I installed WinPatrol (neat program!!) and it said that TGCMD.exe is linked to Support.com and a google on TGCMD.exe said that this was probably installed by my cable modem company (Charter). There was lots of discussion about TGCMD …. some said it was spyware and should be removed and some said it was not spyware. Everything seems to be working OK with Support.com blocked by Windows Firewall so I may leave it that way.
TgAddServer - Software from SupportSoft (aka Support.com) provided to manufacturers (such as Sony (Vaio Support Agent) and Toshiba (Virtual Tech)) and ISPs (such as Comcast, Cox and Charter (Pipeline Support Agent)) that allows them to offer on-line support - to update drivers, fix faults, etc. Can cause a deterioration in a PC's peformance. This part does the protection and "self-healing". Uninstallation is recommended by most people - especially for System Restore users (WinME/XP). If not available via Add/Remove, Charter offer some uninstallation instructions involving a registry patch that you may be able to modify for your proivder or try here
Tgcmd or tgcmdprovidersbc - tgcmd.exe - See above. This part ensures the software is installed correctly (similar to an installation wizard) as reported by Cox. Regarded as spyware by some as it has the ability to retrieve user information. Whether it does so depends upon the provider. "tgcmdprovidersbc" is for SBC Yahoo DSL. One Toshiba user reports problems with hibernate on his laptop if disabled.
Not officially spyware - leave it blocked if everything is working OK. Are you ready for this topic to be closed?
