Hi everyone,

A little while ago we started to discover that there where links in our IE History to various web sites we had never visited, mainly Porn sites but also gambling and other miscellaneous junk. I had Adaware installed and updated and Panda Antivirus installed too. After doing some research on the net i discovered that it must be some kind of spyware / malware and was made aware of SpyBot Search and Destroy, Spyware Blaster and CW Shredder that could help. After installing the above programs i still am having problems with a few Porn web sites appearing in the history of there own accord. This has become a real problem now as we are unable to allow our children to use the computer at the moment for fear one of these sites will flash open on them. I am at my wits end and came across this site which seems like the last hope. I have pasted the Log file below and would appreciate any comments / feedback that you could give me.

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the red 'Delete File' button after pasting:

C:\WINDOWS\cmmon32.exe

Click 'Exit' when done.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

Then create a new folder called C:\HijackThis, extract the HijackThis.exe file from the zip file into the new folder and run it from there. This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong. Make sure that you have no other browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

Reboot when done. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the !Submit folder on the C:\ drive and inside you will the file removed by TheKillbox - zip it up and send to this e-mail address including a link to this thread in the body of the email.

Rescan with HJT and post a new log

That was definitely a bad file, contained IE redirects and links to viagra online!

Let's do a deep scan to make sure nothing else is lurking. Click here to download mwavscan. Double-click it to run it, select all local drives, scan all files, press 'scan' and when it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane. Highlight it, CTRL C and paste it in your next reply.

Hi Again. I was looking at some other posts on this forum and saw a link to a program called Trojan Hunter recommended to someone else with a similar problem. I Download and scanned my computer with it and here is the result. It depends whether they have the files in their detection database.

Use TheKillbox again. In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the red 'Delete File' button after pasting:

Rescan with mwavscan and post a new log

Ok i Killed the files and then ran MWAVScan again, it didnt find anything new just the files that are in the !SUBMIT folder. Here is a copy of the new log;

P.S. I have not had any unwanted entries in my history for a few days now aswell so its looking good.
