I rebooted my computer last night, and things started to get bad.

I am using windows XP SP2, P4 266, had system restore turned off since i brought the computer. My startup program are zone alarm and norton anti virus.

Now when i login to windows (starting at the login screen) I am getting extremely lagness for about 10 minutes, after that I will be able to use my computer however wmp says that my sound card is being in use by some other program. Also I am getting a sudden lagness every 30 seconds or so, or sometimes when I open some programs such as IE or Opera, my computer will stop responding. This is like something is running in the background.

So i went to safe mode and removed my sound card, logined to windows normally, xp detects my sound card, I open wmp during that "10 minutes lagness", the sound card works fine. However, after that "10 minutes lagness" period has finished (the startup programs are now all loaded), i open wmp again and it says that my sound card is not available.

I have ran spybot S&D, ad-aware, and registry mechanics all in safe mode, and still this problem exists. Below is a copy of my hijack log,

New update: Now my computer is getting even worst… I downloaded newest version of Ad-aware SE, updated it to the newest reference, I also updated the virus definition of my Norton antivirus I scan my computer with Ad-aware, and it stop scanning( stuck at the scanning page) at the file c:\windows\system32\tapisrv.dll . I tried scanning again, now it is stuck at file c:\windows\system32\unimdmat.dll. ). I tried some more times, stuck at file c:\windows\system32\unimdm.tsp. Then i open norton anti virus and my computer stops responding. So I went to safemode, first i ran Ad-aware, and it stops scanning (stuck at the scanning page) when it was scanning "browser something" (sorry i couldn't quite remember), then i open NAV and started scanning, however, the scan was extremely slow, and didn't detect a single virus. I tried running other scans with other programs on safemode and they are all very slow. Now i am even having problem in safemode :(

Now i am even having problem in safemode.

I have ran spybot S&D, and registry mechanics all in safe mode, and still this problem exists. Below is a copy of my hijack log,

I have found something that might be helpful in knowing in order to help me out: I also see a trend in something When i used trend micro to scan my c:\windows\system32 folder The scan stops at the file unimdmat.dll for like 5 minutes, and then continues on. When i use ad-aware to scan my system32 folder, the scan stopped and that file and never resume. Well sometimes the scanner stop at other dll files, but most of the time it stop at unimdmat.dll and uniplat.dll I searched over the internet and that file is associated with modem. I am using a laptop computer so my modem=my sound card. Here is what i did after 1) I went to Device Manager and uninstalled my modem and my sound driver 2) I rebooted, logon to windows, i DID NOT get the "10 mins Lagness", everything ran nice and smooth, then win XP detects my sound drive and my modem 3) I installed them both, then i can use my computer without any problems at all (no lag, was able to use wmp to play songs) 4) I reboot again, logon to windows, now I HAVE the "10 mins Lagness" and wasn't able to use my sound card after the "10 mins lag". So as you can see, if i enter windows WITHOUT my modem installed, my computer works fine. If i enter windows WITH my modem installed, my computer will have this lagness. I am thinking now that during the "10 minutes lagness" some program (probablly some spyware) is accessing my modem trying to go somewhere and denying access to my modem=my sound card and creating lag. If during windows start it sees that my computer don't have a modem, then it won't try to access it. I also ran ad-aware again when i enter windows WITHOUT my modem installed, and this time it didn't stop when scanning those dll files, but it stopped when it say it's "SCANNING BROWSER CACHE". Do these help you in anyway? Thanks
