Thanks Little Eagle. You helped me with another computer about a month or so ago and recommended a really good, free anti-virus program. Do you remember what it is and how I can get it? :) I ask because when I install my Norton Utilities 2004 software on this computer it seems to CRIPPLE it….incredibly slow performance, crashes, etc. - so I've had to uninstall it. But the main problem I'm trying to solve is that whenever I try to run DIsk Cleanup from my System Tools menu the computer just shuts down! Happens every single time with this computer, and I can't fiigure out why or how to fix it. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance, Adan
Thanks again. I installed that AVG Anti-Virus in place of my Norton Systemworks- hopefully that helped conserve some system resources. I was able to run Disk Defragmenter, per your advice. But the computer is still rather sluggish, and shuts itself off at random times. My girlfriend says she received an error a few times saying something about a "Sasser Virus." I've attached my latest Hi Jack This log. Can you find anything wrong? Thanks!

One of the best features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option.
However after what has been cleaned out viruses and hackers you will want to reset your restore points.

For (win XP)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

For (win ME)
To disable System Restore:

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the Performance tab, click File System, or press ALT+F.
3. On the Troubleshooting tab, click to select the Disable System Restore check box.
4. Click OK twice, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.
5. To re-enable System Restore, follow steps 1-3, but in step 3, click to clear the Disable System Restore check box.

First Disable system restore .
Second Go here and run online scans (all), allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan

Note any thing that can't be fixed
Then Enable system restore
Reboot when done. Rescan with HJT and post a new log here.
Ok Little Eagle. Took some time to run all those scans, but here's my latest HJT log. Note that no viruses or problems were found from any of the scans. System is still very slow to boot up though, and whenever I try to "Restart" the system it crashes- gives me the option to enter in Safe Mode or Normal mode. When I choose normal it freezes up and I have to hold down the power key to shut down and hard boot back up. Any idea whats causing this or how to fix it? Thanks.
