Hi,

On start or reboot, my AVG reports Dropper.Delf.3.L in my C:\temp directory. I have tried getting rid of it using PANDA Online scan, Macfee Online scan with no luck. My AVG 6 cannot put it in the virus vault. the only thing I can do is delete it from the temp directory, but it comes back.

Another problem is something called Webrates.

My second problem is that after installing Logitech WebCam software, something called BackWeb.exe wants access to the internet. Is this also a malignant spyware which should be removed? I have denied it access to the internet in my Zone Alarm.

I hope somebody can help me.
thanx in advance
Marky Mark

In my c:\temp directory I have seen following:
Installer2.exe
Webrates_auto_InstallSilent.Euro.exe

AVG 6 reports following:
Trojan Horse Dropper.Delf.3.L found in c:\temp\Installer2.exe
To remove this virus, please run AVG for windows. (I tried this with no luck).

Below is my Hijackthis log file

Hi Marky Mark, Welcome back.

First let me explain about Backweb. This is a program that checks for updates for any Logitech products you have on your system. It's perfectly safe to run, provided you have logitech products on your computer, which I believe you stated you have Logitech WebCam software.

You do have a few nasties so lets do this:
First go to Start, Control panel, Add/Remove Programs and look for a program called Windows AdControl. Remove it – if it's present.

Next start HJT, close all windows and browsers except HJT and put a check mark next to these entries and select FIX:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows AdControl] C:\Program Files\Windows AdControl\WinAdCtl.exe

Reboot in Safe Mode: Here's how –
*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

Look for this folder and delete it , IF it still exsists– (In RED)
C:\Program Files\Windows AdControl

While still in safe mode delete your temp files. Here's how –
Step 1:Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

Open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Reboot normally —

Download and run these 2 programs:Spybot and Adaware : Here's how:
Next, Lets do a scan with these 2 programs - Spybot and Adaware.

1) SpyBot Search and Destroy

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

Download Run SpyBot Search & Destroy, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', have SpyBot remove all the items it marks in RED.

Next Download Adaware and configure for deep scanning, here's how:

Here are instructions for Adaware.
Download the latest version of Ad-Aware:
http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

After installing AAW, and before running the program.
Please be sure to update the reference file following the instructions here:
http://www.lavahelp.net/howto/updref/

Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan:

Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.

Click the "Scanning" button.
Under Drives, Folders and Files, select "Scan within Archives".
Click "Click here to select Drives + folders" and select your installed hard drives.

Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
Click the "Advanced" button.
Under "Log-file detail level", select all options.
Click the "Tweaks" button.

Under "Scanning Engine", select the following:
"Unload recognized processes during scanning."
Under "Cleaning Engine", select the following:
"Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
Click on 'Proceed' to save these Preferences.

Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT to allow it to finish.
Run HJT and post a fresh log — DO NOT FIX ANYTHING..

Thanks,
Sky
Hi Sky,

First of all thanks a lot for your help. I have done as in your message, and below is the new HJT log.

Hi Sky, Oops! sorry, forgot Adaware and Spybot. Will revert after completing these. by the way are Adaware and Adware Away the same? rgrds Mark
Hi Sky,

Thanx. I have used Adware downloaded from Lavasoft via CNET. I have run both Spybot and Adware SE Personal from link on lavasoft home page.

I ran Spybot first, and it said "congratulation, no ………."

Thereafter I ran Adware as per ur instructions, and it found and fixed 52 items.

Subsequently I did HJT and below is the latest log.

Hi Marky Mark, Welcome back.

Your Log is clean …
Now that you have Adaware and Spybot, be sure to update and run them often. Here are some other tips to keep your computer clean:
Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Install IE-Spyed
https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

E-SPYAD adds a long list of sites and domains associated with known advertisers, marketers, and crapware pushers to the Restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer.

Glad I could help,

Sky
Glad we could help :D
