hi all!
i've read a few of the older posts about how to get rid of trojan horses, but i'm REALLY unfamiliar with how to go about getting rid of it. i'm pretty much a novice when it comes to all fixing these sorts of problems with my computer. and i have not found that many posts on the specific trojan horse dropper.delf.3.be.
currently i the software that i have installed are AVG, ad aware, spybot and zone alarm.

i was wondering if someone with infinite patience could possibly walk me through this. i would be forever grateful!

here is my log. thanks in advance! -amy

Hi Amy, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. I will do my best to help you but first I must tell you that I do not see the item you describe in your log. Could you tell me what program identified it and what the location of the item is. At the same time the program identified the item it will also give this information. The only thing I see in the log is this:
O3 - Toolbar: YourSiteBar - {86227D9C-0EFE-4f8a-AA55-30386A3F5686} - C:\PROGRA~1\YOURSI~1\ysb.dll
which should be removed because it is Certified spyware/foistware, or other malware see the following links:
http://castlecops.com/clsid-1454.html
http://www.yoursitebar.com/program.html?adv_id=1000236

I will be much more able to help you when I know where this worm is hiding, please also post a new log along with that information.

If you wish to run a tool to see if it can locate and remove the worm, try this one.
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ The instruction are easy to follow, let me know if you are able to remove this worm with Stinger along with the next log.

Good Luck, Phil

Hi Phil,
Thanks so much for your response.
I have removed YourSiteBar per your advice.

The virus was detected by AVG and is currently located at
C:\Documents and Settings\Amy\Local Settings\Temp\
AVG shows it as two infected files, object:
C:\Documents and Settings\Amy\Local Settings\Temp\bait.exe:\tmg-nav2k5.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Amy\Local Settings\Temp\bait.exe

Holy cow, I just realized something as I was typing out the file location. About two weeks ago I was going to install a cracked version of Norton Antivirus, but when I dragged the setup file onto my desktop, AVG informed me that the program was infected, so I did not end up installing it. I think I remember just deleting it.

I am very unfamiliar with how trojans and viruses work, but I'm guessing that in even dragging the setup file for the infected Norton Antivirus, it somehow plopped this trojan horse on my box.

What to do now? Can I just delete it? (Because when I click on "Go to file" on AVG, it takes me right to the file.)

I have just run Stinger, and I watched it scan right over that aforementioned file (bait.exe) and it says that my hard drive is clean.

And here's my latest log:

Thanks in advance and thanks again for any guidance.

Ok Amy, Let me try to answer a few questions first:

The virus was detected by AVG and is currently located at
C:\Documents and Settings\Amy\Local Settings\Temp\

You could and should empty all Temp files on a regular basis. CCleaner which we will install and run will get most of them, but in this case since we know where the bad file is we will look again during the cleaning process.

AVG informed me that the program was infected, so I did not end up installing it. I think I remember just deleting it.

If you DID NOT click on the file to install it and deleted it unopened it would not cause an issue. Keep in mind that any file you are unsure of you would be better off scanning with AVG. If AVG even indicates it is questionable, delete it unopened. I will try to get more information about how viruses/trojans infect before we close this thread. Make sure I do, ask for it if I forget.
If AVG takes you to the file and you know it is bad, delete it. If you are not sure it is bad, scan it with AVG for confirmation. Here is another nice tool you can save where you can get information about a file you are concerned with: http://virusscan.jotti.org/

I have just run Stinger, and I watched it scan right over that aforementioned file (bait.exe) and it says that my hard drive is clean.

Save the Stinger and keep it updated for when you may need it one day. It is designed to remove certain infections and if it did not ID and remove the item on your computer then it is not one of them. The information about what Stinger removes in available within the Stinger program.

This is what I would like you to do:

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

2) C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgwb.dat: This is unusual for AVG, I would consider a reinstall of the AVG sofware in the event it has been corrupted by malware after you are clean.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [DeleteYourSiteBar] rundll32.exe advpack.dll,DelNodeRunDLL32 "C:\Program Files\YourSiteBar\ysb.dll"

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\YourSiteBar\ >>> folder (if there)

Just to be sure, locate this Temp folder and delete the contests (NOT THE FOLDER) just the contents. If there is a lot to delete then click tools at the top then Select All, then hit delete:

C:\Documents and Settings\Amy\Local Settings\Temp\

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Thanks…pskelley

Hi again!

Thanks so much for your help! I did everything you asked me to. (Except that when I used HijackThis to click off the boxes, this item didn't exist "O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [DeleteYourSiteBar] rundll32.exe advpack.dll,DelNodeRunDLL32 "C:\Program Files\YourSiteBar\ysb.dll", so I did not check it).

I scanned my machine this morning with AVG and I'm clean! No trojan to speak of. And here's my latest log:

It seems that everything is in working order! Thanks so much for your help. Is there anything else that I ought to do for future protection?

THANKS AGAIN!

Hi Amy, Looks good, pat yourself on the back and now go out and fix everyone elses computers…
Your log is clean, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

Except that when I used HijackThis to click off the boxes, this item didn't exist

My guess would be that you did not restart your computer after you killed the item the first time. It requires a reboot for the change to take effect. Whatever…you are clean girl. I will leave this thread open for a couple of days in case you have any questions. Good luck and safe surfing…Phil :wavey:

Thanks…pskelley

Thanks so much! I will most definetly archive these messages for future reference. All of you provide an invaluble service. And hey, if I were as educated as you guys were on this stuff, I would try my hand and deciphering logs and the netherworld of viruses!
