Hi, I have posted on another forum regarding this but so far the problem still persists: I have downloaded both HijackThis and CWShredder a few times now and from different sites but it is not possible to run them. After unzipping them with CamUnzip and try to run them I get a small message box "Unexpected error" (with no details). I have an older version of HJT which runs fine and I have run successfully CWS in past. Also before unzipping HJT zipfile, CamUnzip gives me a warning message "garbage at the end of zipfile" but nothing like this with CWS and still after that I get unexpected error with both. I think I had also tried downloading CWS in its exe format but still I get error. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks. lina
Hi, thanks for the reply. I followed the link you gave and ran the miniremoval file. It found no coolwebsearch.smartkiller on my system. I had run that program a few times before, sorry I didn't include that in my orginal post, I remembered it only after I had posted my message. onward, lina

Little eagle, I can't remember for sure whether I unzipped the HJT verision I have with CamUnzip but I would say most likely as I have been using it for a while now with no problems. Also to make sure it has nothing to do with the unzip program I use, I uninstalled it and downloaded the latest of CamUnzip. Again with the hjt.zip I get a warning message "garbage at the end of zipfile", nevertheless it allows me to go ahead with the extracting and then when I try running HJT I get "unexpected error". I got the same error message for the CWS zip file (without the garbage message). So there must be something that prevents both these programs to run. And I do not have problems running any other programs. The computer is still slow, especially at times. I have run MEDefrag, Regseeker to get rid of Invalid ActiveX and FilePath Do not Exist entries. I run Spybot and Adware reguraly updated. I have also run Spider to get rid of all remains of URLs, etc. I clear all *.temp files and TIFs every day. I can't see what the problem might be. I wonder if I should try downloading them for yet another location, if you can suggest some. tha, lina
Daveai has answered my original post "computer slow" and the error running HJT and CWS" went. Now I can run both programs. I downloaded HJT.zip from the location he gave, then ran StartDreck which he recommended and somehow after that the unzipped HJT and CWS did not give an error message and opened. Thanks a lot for replying to my post. lina
