Heyeveryone.

I've looked through about 6 different logs of hijackthis in various forums trying to figure out how to get rid of that blue bar that has become everyone's friend. I cannot, however, find any kind of consistancy. So, I'm putting up my file. I know that the frist R1 entry is evil, but everytime I delete it, it comes back after a re-boot. please, I'm at wits end on this one.

Also, I've never had a good answer to this, so maybe you guys can help. Why are there so many copies of svchost.exe running at a given time.

thank you so much for the help in advance.

steve

First of all could you click Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and uninstall 'Window Search', 'Window Searching', 'Lop.com', 'LOP SEARCH', 'Browser Enhancer', or 'Ultimate Browser Enhancer' if listed. You may be given a code to insert, do so and reboot when done. If not listed there, run this uninstaller:
http://members.rogers.com/rjmac/new_uninstall.exe

Uninstall Messenger Plus as it comes bundled with LOP, the infection you currently enjoy :). You can reinstall Messenger Plus without the sponsor.

Unzip HJT into it's own permanent folder before doing anything in order that the backups it creates cannot be deleted by accident. (Not a temporary folder or directly on the desktop (in a folder on the desktop is fine) & not directly on your hard drive). Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.jhrprfwujbfcffmrug.net/aoaPadH_…r4qmv2zezd.html

O1 - Hosts: comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [drawdriveopentray] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\exit roam draw drive\Readme Htm.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BowsDownload] C:\DOCUME~1\steve\APPLIC~1\CHINNO~1\Online Remote.exe

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete the following if found:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\exit roam draw drive-folder
C:\DOCUME~1\steve\APPLIC~1\CHINNO~1-folder

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

Reboot normally after doing the above, rescan with hijackthis making certain that all instances of Internet Explorer are closed, then post that log here please.
ok Messenger plus was the biggy. I noticed it on most other HJT logs, but not ALL so I thought it wasn't the problem. the blue bar is now gone. However, when I ran HJT again, I noticed some lines taht weren't there before.

btw, I feel like a bit of an idiot for getting that lob bar in the first place, I'm usualy very carful when it comes to installing "tweak" programs.

here's the new log. I've coloured the worriesom entries for clairity.

also, i re-ask, what's with all the svchost.exe files?

thanks again.
steve
Svchost.exe= From Answers that Work:

Service Host – Generic Host Process for Win32 Services.  The full path to this file should be shown in  The Ultimate Troubleshooter  as  C:\WinNT\System32\Svchost.exe  or  C:\Windows\System32\Svchost.exe.  Windows 2000/XP/2003 only.  SVCHOST is a generic process which acts as a host for processes that run from DLLs rather than EXEs.  At startup SVCHOST checks the Services portion of the Registry to construct a list of DLL-based services that it needs to load, and then loads them.  There can be many instances of SVCHOST running, as there will be one instance of SVCHOST for every DLL-based service or grouping of services (the grouping of services is determined by the programmers who wrote the services in question).  Under Windows XP Professional and Windows 2003 you can find out what DLL-based services SVCHOST is running by typing  Tasklist /SVC  at a Command/MS‑DOS Prompt  (this command is not available in Windows XP Home), while under Windows 2000 you need to use the  TLIST –s  command from a Command Prompt (MS-DOS Prompt)  (depending on how Windows 2000 was installed you may need to download TLIST from the Microsoft website or install it from one of the miscellaneous folders on the Windows 2000 CD).

Recommendation :
An integral part of the operating system, leave alone – multiple instances of SVCHOST is a normal occurrence.
