HijackThis is a powerful tool for identifying and removing malware. It can also cause a lot of problems if items are 'fixed' without expert assistance. To become an expert takes training and experience. I have received some very good training and am gradually gaining experience, but I have a way to go yet. This is why all of my 'fixes' have to be approved by an expert at the moment. Some anti-malware forums, such as this one and Malware Removal, train people to fight malware (see the links in my signature for further information).

You have one or two issues that need sorting out - otherwise your log is clean.

Some security programs with active monitoring processes are known to interfere with automatic scanners and can actually prevent HJT fixes from taking effect. Please turn off or disable the following programs for the duration of your HJT cleanup. Please remember to reactivate them when we have finished.

Windows Defender:
  • Open Windows Defender
  • Click Tools => General Settings
  • Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
  • Click Save
  • Close Windows Defender
SpySweeper:
  • Open SpySweeper
  • click Options then Program options
  • Uncheck load at windows startup
  • Over to the left click shields and uncheck all there
  • Uncheck home page shield
  • Uncheck automaticly restore default without notifiction
You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system.

Update Java Runtime:
  • Go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
  • Click on the link named Download JRE 5.0 Update 8
  • Click on Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save the downloaded file to your hard disk
  • Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
  • Uninstall the old version (Java 2 Runtime Environment 1.5.0_06), plus any others found
  • Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file, and follow the on-screen instructions.
You have one or two 'doubtful' ActiveX controls which I recommend we remove. If you need any of these in the future, they will download when you go to that website. Close down all programs, browsers and other open windows. Run HijackThis and click "Scan" and then check (tick) the following, if present (don't worry if any are missing):

I cannot see any sign that you are using a firewall. Are you using Windows XP firewall? If not, I suggest that you switch it on immediately. Windows XP firewall is better than nothing but it only protects against incoming traffic. It doesn't protect you against outgoing baddies trying to "phone home". I cannot stress how important it is that you use a firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a firewall in its default configuration can greatly lower your risk. my computer is running funny. ran avg and it said fine. ran kapersky and it found 3 virus and 9 objects infected: here is the report along with hijack this report. help! thanks
