Can someone please help me? McAfee sent me this way.

Yes, I do need help. I have continued to receive pop-ups. Running McAfee virus scan, I am told I have no viruses.

Using Yahoo's Anti-Spy, I find Virtual Bouncer & Purity Scan….along with a virus called ttuh.exe? I am in a mess, aren't I? I am so angry that I can't fix this. I spent all day yesterday (Sunday) trying to get rid of these things. I guess I just don't understand how this can happen when I keep my virus protection up to date?

Also, another question maybe someone can answer. I use Verizon DSL. Even when I am not online, when I hit CTRL-ALT-DELETE, I see that my local area connection is running. Should it be even though I am offline?

Anyway, any & all help is greatly appreciated.

Whatever info you need, let me know and I will do my best to provide.

Depressed,
Jen

hi chaoticjen I'm sorry it has taken so long to get to you, if you still need help could you post a fresh hijack log please. But before you do could you unzip hijackthis into a folder of its own as running it from a temp file may mean that backups are lost on reboot. Open 'My Computer', then double-click to open C:\ (or the drive letter that your Windows is installed) In the menu bar, click File–>New–>Folder. That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ or C:\HijackThis\ folder. Put your HijackThis.exe there, and double click to run it. Scan and post a new log. Look forward to hearing from you. ;)

I think I have resolved the issue but if you wouldn't mind verifying this, I'd appreciate it. Thanks again! :wavey:
Hello

Run hijackthis and make sure all browsers and windows are closed except for hijackthis, put a check against the following and click 'fix checked'

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = wmplayer.exe

You can fix this one too if you wish, it isn't bad as such but it is a resource hog and is not needed in start up… your choice though. :)

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

Empty your temp files by using disk cleanup

Go to Start>Programs>Acccessories>System Tools> Disk Cleanup and put a check mark beside all the entries in the disk cleanup window that ask you what you want to clean. Clean all hard drives and all files. This will get rid of any malware that is hiding in the temporary folders.

Here are some suggestions to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future. I strongly recommend installing the following :

Spyware Blaster - It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
Spyware Guard - It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
IE-Spyad - IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
I also recommend reading this article written by Tony Klein How did I get infected in the first place
Thanks for the help. :D Here's my new log:

I think so! I haven't had one pop-up since I first fixed/cleaned. Also, ran Trend's online virus scan & am clean. Thanks again for your help. :wavey:
