Wow it's been over 5 years since I've needed your assistance and of course have a different computer and probably different e-mail so I'll just watch for your answer online till I update my profile! Cool that you still have my login. I was having problems when online a few weeks ago and realized there was a bad problem when "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Encountered A Problem and needs to close error msg came up and I looked on Google to see what that was about. Don't know if my downloading a fix from someone named RancidBreath maybe made it worse and I noticed then that McAfee Advisor wasn't showing up, McAfee was no longer in my systray and the icon on my desktop said it was out of date. I removed McAfee thru control panel but was unable to download it from AT&T side as only partial steps showed up. Tech guys at work said download Spybot to find out what it was. Before downloading Spybot, I removed stuff my son had put on there…Bit Torrent, Skype and other things I can't remember name of. Spybot said I had 6 Trojans, some Win 32, Dropper.4Maximus and Virtumonde. Each time I ran Spybot fewer were showing up. Yesterday ran Spybot twice and nothing showed up but obviously there are lots of problems when online. Generic Host msg pops up and I have to log off computer and try to get on again but then porn stuff is showing up in address bar. I successfully downloaded Hijack This and here's what I got. Don't know if I can stay online but will keep trying.

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. It will be a randomly named executable.
  • Double click the exe file.
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan…click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.

    [external image: Posted Image]
Click the image to enlarge it

  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are unchecked
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries
I finally was able to read some other posts on this site and downloaded Malwarebytes. Then I couldn't get online at all and worked on it for hours. Obviously I'm on now and hopefully can get on when I return home later today to follow your instructions. Just FYI here's what Malwarebytes found. It took Spybot over 2 hours to run and said I had no threats again. I need to run a tool, but first you need to uninstall AVG as it interferes with the fix

please use this application to uninstall AVG

Please download AppRemover and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on AppRemover.exe to run it.
  • Uncheck "Enable anonymous usage statistics. No personal data will be recorded."
  • Click on the Next button.
  • Click on "Remove Security Application" or "Clean Up a Failed Uninstall" depending on what you want to do. (you want the failed uninstall)
  • Click on the Next button.
  • A scan begins, please wait. Once done, click on the Next button.
  • Now you should have a list of your installed programs, choose the one you want to remove (AVG) and click on the Next button.
  • Follow the last step and reboot if asked to do so.

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
Didn't get very far. Clicked AppRemover to download but it never got to asking where I wanted to save it and error popped up that said "Windows cannot find AppRemoverCore.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button and then click Search". I did search and no file was found. Can't see AppRemover anywhere. My cursor is going crazy so I think I'll run Malwarebytes to try to remove whatever before trying this again. Be back later.
Unable to remove it as it's saying it's already being used by someone. Header on errors is 32788R22FWJFW/iexplore.exe and 32788R22FWJFW/hidec.exe. Can't remove those errors…Can't delete ComboFix.exe.
were you actually able to download the file at all?

If yes, delete that file from your desktop

then reboot

boot into safe mode with networking:

Tap F8 repeatedly until an advanced menu appears > arrow up to safe mode with networking

now download a fresh copy of ComboFix but rename it to iexplore.exe and run it in safemode

Sorry Cat. I've been sitting here waiting for your response and guess I needed to refresh the screen. Yes I downloaded it to my desktop but have already tried to remove it and it won't let me. I'll try again. Those error messages are still on my screen and I'm unable to remove them either. Maybe I'll try to logout and back in and will have some success in removing them. Thanks for your help.
How are you getting on? Any luck running ComboFix now?

I also need to make you aware, that your machine was infected with a backdoor trojan and a password stealer:

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files without your knowledge.
If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.
