Hi from New Zealand

I have a Browser Hijack problem too and wonder if there is someone out there who could help me clear my computer.

Every 40-50 seconds a SpyBot detection notice comes up to say that the Registry value of the Search Assistant has been changed and to allow or deny the change. It does not matter whether you click either deny or accept but it comes up again.

I would be most grateful for any assistance - I am at my wit's end at trying to fix it.

My Hijack This log is as follows:

Close all Browser and Program Windows and have HijackThis fix the following.
Do this by checking the box beside each and then clicking on Fix checked.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.fjpeluxxabunef.net/brRqZ3DXeitA…Y9GLb9K_a2v.htm

The following have randomly named file names, and as such are normally malware.

Right click on the folder and go to Properties. Then go to the Version tab to see what company name it's from:

C:\PROGRA~1\PLANBA~1\Idleshim.exe

Then Download System Security Suite. Extract it from the zip file into a folder.
http://www.igorshpak.net/software/3ssetup104.zip
Under "items to clear" click all. Then click "clear selected items"

Reboot and Rescan with HJT and post a new log here.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi

I have completed the actions you set out. There is no company or version for the file C:\PROGRA~1\PLANBA~1\Idleshim.exe

In the PlanBatIso folder all the files were created 1 October 2004 and 5 October 2004 and I do not recognise them.

Also in the Programs folder there is another folder "seektrustmfcd" which has the file "Flapremote.exe" in it and that was created 5 October 2004 also. Do both of those folders and all the files need to be removed?

The computer still has a SpyBot detection notice coming up to say that the Registry value of the Search Assistant has been changed.

Yes and the easiest way is system restore.
You are running windows XP which allows you to move to a
old restore point before the infection.
See if you have a restore point about a week before that.
To do that hit
Start>control panel>Preformanceand Manintence>System Restore
click restore my computer to an earlier time.

This will also remove any files that were created at that time.
Hi Again and Thank you for your help so far

The only System Restore points that I could get were in October and that was about the time I first got the problem. The computer would not go back to any previous month.

I deleted the 2 folders with the .exe files in them and also a shortcut I found on the desktop called Poker which I had not put there. It was a shortcut to

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://www.flooniesrhuv.com/PiSt1LQm1o5W1S…Ml95lcKddbs.htm

I also went to Trend Micro for an online virus scan which indicated that there were 2 trojan files which were deleted.

Result at the moment is that the SpyBot detection notice is no longer coming up to say that the Registry value of the Search Assistant has been changed.

However, I now have an error box coming up called TouchED Error and the message says 'Retrieval of "THotkey" failed' - Error Code 0x00031402, 0x00000002

I would be grateful if someone could advise me what that means. In the meantime, in case there is something else wrong I am enclosing my latest HijackThis Log:

Leith Friend (NZ)
Log looks clean, I'll do some checking. It might be the way that LOP was uninstalled. It may have a file looking to run? What are you doing when you get the error?
Hi Little Eagle It has taken a while to try and sort out what I was doing when the error box came up. 1. It seemed to be when I first logged on and after all the programs had been set up it would come up. 2. Otherwise if it did not come up at startup it would come up when I opened a program. 3. It seemed to come up only once during a session on the computer - it did not seem to keep on coming up while I was using the computer. If you had any thoughts about what I need to do I would be most grateful. It is a laptop with a touch pad instead of a mouse but I use a mouse connected through USB. I am presuming the "TouchED Error" relates to that. Many thanks for your help Regards :wavey: Leith Friend New Zealand

I also went to Trend Micro for an online virus scan which indicated that there were 2 trojan files which were deleted.

However, I now have an error box coming up called TouchED Error and the message says 'Retrieval of "THotkey" failed' - Error Code 0x00031402, 0x00000002

Do you remember what the two trojan files were.

Lovegate and Padobot
Hi Little Eagle :D Thank you very much for your help - things are OK now - finally !! I very much appreciate your talking me through how to fix my puta and for going out of your way to help. Regards :wavey: Leith Friend New Zealand
Glad we could help.
