i think i might have a virus on my computer, possibly a trojan horse. I've ran both Ad Aware and norton antivirus as well as another antivirus program, and the computer automatically shuts off during the scan procedure, this is happening numerous times ever since a week ago. I can't scan my computer because the computer keeps shutting down during the scan. I also ran Norton antivirus in safe mode and the same thing happens.

Here's my hijack log:

Greetings lhouzhou01, and welcome to TomCoyote!

I'm 'KotaGuy and I will be helping you with your HijackThis log.

Please print this out for reference during the fix.

First, I would like you to make sure no files will be hidden. Please:

1. Click Start.
2. Open My Computer.
3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
4. Select the View Tab.
5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
6. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
7. Click Yes to confirm.
8. Click OK.

Next, hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring up the Task Manager. End Task any of the following you see:

SyncroAd.exe
WebRebates1.exe
WebRebates0.exe

Go to your Control Panel. Open Add/Remove Programs. Uninstall the following if found:

SyncroAd
WebRebates

Run HijackThis, and with all other browsers and windows closed, scan, place a check beside the following if found and fix:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {83DE62E0-5805-11D8-9B25-00E04C60FAF2} - C:\WINDOWS\2_0_1browserhelper2.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows SyncroAd] C:\Program Files\Windows SyncroAd\SyncroAd.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WebRebates0] "C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\WebRebates0.exe"
O8 - Extra context menu item: Web Rebates - file://C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\Sy1150\Tp1150\scri1150a.htm

I would like you now to clean out your temp files. To do this, click Start>Run, type in cleanmgr and hit Enter. Let it scan. Place a check beside Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recylce Bin.

If you have System Restore on, you may wish to reset your Restore Point now. To do this:

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the Performance tab, click File System, or press ALT+F.
3. On the Troubleshooting tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
4. Click OK twice, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 3, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore'

Once you have turned System Restore back on, run HijackThis. With only HijackThis running, scan and post the new log please.

Thanks!

Hi lhouzhou01! Thanks for posting the new log. It is CLEAN!

Nice Work!

Some suggestions if I may….

The Toolbar you have installed from Viewpoint is optional. If you don't use it, you can probably uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs.

Along with Ad-Aware, you should download and install the newest version of Spybot Search & Destroy. Like Ad-Aware, it is free.

Make sure both Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy are fully updated and remember to keep updating them. You should also visit this site, Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware, for instructions on configuring both programs for best detection.

I highly recommend downloading and installing SpywareBlaster.

To go along with SpywareBlaster, you should download and install SpywareGuard. SpywareGuard acts just like an Anti-Virus program in that it actively scans files before they are opened and prevents execution if Malware/Spyware is detected.

I also recommend downloading and installing IE-SPYAD. IE-SPYAD adds a long list of sites and domains associated with known Advertisers, Marketers, and Malware/Spyware pushers to the Restricted Sites zone of Internet Explorer.

I noticed you are Using Norton, are you using the Personal Firewall from Norton as well? Or the Windows one? If neither are active, you should activate at least one. If you don't like either, you may wish to try the free version of Zone Alarm. Or the newest version of Kerio Personal Firewall. Kerio Personal Firewall comes with a fully functional 30-Day trial. You will then need to pay for the product.

Thats about it!

Remember to keep Windows and it's components updated. All your AntiVirus and AntiMalware programs too. Scan regularily.

You may also want to visit the links in my signature named "Understanding Spyware", and "How did I get infected?", both have a lot of good information on how this happens and how to minimize reinfection.
