First, Thank You for this Forum.

Following is a narrative of my problems, starting with where I believe they began and ending with a Hijackthis log file.
I'm hoping the narrative might educate/prevent someone else from making the same mistake.

I received a spam email from someone like "Walter Jones" indicating I'd been approved for a loan.
Outlook Express showed an attachment. I have Outlook set to remove practically all file attachments. I was curious (= stupid) and opened the email. Outlook hadn't removed the attachment. It was I believe a gif file. Text in the email asked you to click on a link? to see your loan approval. I kinda panicked and without opening the attachment, closed the email and deleted it.
That's when all hell broke lose. Norton flashed messages of infection (Counter, VerifierBug, and Worker class trojans), and at the same time something called AdDestroyer and VirtualBouncer? downloaded to my PC.
I think I was able to manually delete AdDestroyer and Virtual Bouncer, and Norton took care of the Trojans, but now when I open IE, I get popups and re-direction to other sites.

I've used Ad-Aware several times. It deletes 6 regkey, 2 file, and 1 folder "Ezula" entries. But they will re-appear after using IE or restarting the computer.

SpyBot also found several items and fixed them.
A couple re-boots ago, it also warned me about 2 System Startup Global Entries: 1. Value Added. New data: C:\Windows\system32\dfviewc.exe 2. Value Deleted. Old data: C:\Windows\system32\pnmodemd.exe.
I instructed it to Deny the changes.

After all the above happened, I went to the MicroSoft Website and downloaded and installed updates for XP.

Make sure you have the latest critical updates from windows update.

Go here and run online scans (all), allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed

Then post another log
Thank you for your reply little eagle.
I've completed your recommendations.

Windows Critical Security updates installed.
HouseCall found nothing.
eTrust found 1 unknown item. I deleted.
Panda found this Trojan: C:\WINDOWS\system32\bH.dll
Panda also found an "Exploit/iFrame" within a Hoax email I had saved.
Both items were fixed.
I don't believe anything was found that couldn't be deleted/disinfected/fixed.

Windows updates complete (hopefully).

Ezula regkeys/files still appearing in ad-aware scans.
DSO Exploits (5) keep appearing in Spybot scans.
Something casino and WinPup related also appeared in the latest Spybot scan.

Hello JackPug

You have one (or more) of these programs running on your machine and that is good.

Winpatrol
Spywareguard
Spybot s&d (Teatimer option)

But prior to doing the fix below with hijackthis they need to be turned off.
Please do the following.

Right click the running icon of spybot's teatimer, and choose exit.
Right click the running icon of winpatrol, and choose exit.
Right click the running icon of Spywareguard, it will open the program, Menu, file, exit, and confirm the programs close.

Unless they are turned off they could interfer with the fix by hijackthis.

Please go to add and remove programs and remove,
VBouncer

Close all Browser and Program Windows and have HijackThis fix the following by checking the box beside each and then clicking on Fix checked.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IPInSightLAN 01] "C:\Program Files\Citianywhere\CA\IPInsight\IPClient.exe" -l
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VBouncer] C:\PROGRA~1\VBouncer\VirtualBouncer.exe
O4 - Global Startup: hp center UI.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Shadow\ShadowBar.exe
O4 - Global Startup: hp center.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe

The following activeX controls will reinstall when(and if) you revisit that website, UNLESS you know they are from a safe source, check to remove.

Reboot afterwards in SAFE MODE. If you don't know how click here
Delete the following files and folder listed
C:\Program Files\Citianywhere\CA\IPInsight\IPClient.exe" -l<< C:\PROGRA~1\VBouncer\VirtualBouncer.exe folder
C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Shadow\ShadowBar.exe<< C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe <<

Some of these files and folders might have the hidden atribute
How to show hidden files and folders in Windows Instructions here

Then Download System Security Suite. Extract it from the zip file into a folder.
http://www.igorshpak.net/software/3ssetup104.zip
Under "items to clear" click all. Then click "clear selected items"

Reboot and Rescan with HJT and post a new log here.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
little eagle, Re: "Please go to add and remove programs and remove, VBouncer" I couldn't find Vbouncer in Add or Remove Programs. Could it be listed by a different name? Is there another step I need to take? Re fixing: "O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IPInSightLAN 01] "C:\Program Files\Citianywhere\CA\IPInsight\IPClient.exe" -l" Re deleting: "C:\Program Files\Citianywhere\CA\IPInsight\IPClient.exe" Citianywhere is the name on the icon I click to activate a VPN application\connection for working from home. Is this part of the Citianywhere application corrupt? Will it still function if I delete these items? Thanks for your ongoing help.
Hello JackPug,

No it's not necessary at all. It's a diagnostic tool that Verizon techs can use to troubleshoot connection problems on your line.
IP Insight is a Quality of Service and /or diagnostic package - but it's not used by VOL at this time -
there's no back-end companion for tech support or NOC to use to access it…
It does send "phone home" data used to check latency and network traffic occasionally,
but like any other features that it contains are unused or not implemented.

C:\Program Files\Citianywhere\CA\IPInsight\IPClient.exe

Just delete the file not the program folder.

Please post another log.
