:( I upgraded my kids Dell with Service Pack 2, then they said they lost the Internet(but it may be unrelated). The PC was mostly used for Instant Messenger and Limewire (music) The computer recognizes a wireless connection and a hard wired LAN connection but whatever I do, I cannot get the IP config to make a browser work. Or Live Update or any other communication with the Internet. I followed one of you postings to get rid of errorplace.com but still I can't get anywhere. I'm afraid I screwed up a registry file or something. Here's the Hijackthis information:

Please Help
Hi dogwud17557, Thank you for posting to Tom Coyote. I will be assisting you in getting your system back up and running like it should. If you have any questions about any of my instructions, please post them here.

We can get your internet fixed, but first, there are a few things to do.
you noted in your post that you are running LimeWire on the machine with the problem. LimeWire is known to be bundled with spyware.
Here is a link to alternative File sharing programs, without all the Nasties commonly found in most file sharing programs. http://forums.spywareinfo.com/swi/articles/p2p/ look in the CLEAN section.

Please uninstall LimeWire, as it may inhibit our attempts to get your log clean. If you choose to continue using Limewire, you may reinstall it when we are done.

You have two rogue anti-spyware programs, one called Spyware remover, the other SpyBlast. You can read about it here: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
These need to be removed.
To remove LimeWire, and the rogue anti-spyware, use Add/Remove Programs.

I assume you are not currently on the system with the broken internet access, so you will need to download this program to a floppy and run it on the affected machine.
Please Download the LSPfix.txt At http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm and read the readme file.

Please Download LSPfix.zip or LSPfix.exe at http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Close all windows except LSPfix

Launch LSPfix.zip and install to its own folder, then click on LSPfix.exe. Or click on LSPfix.exe and it will launch the program.

In the left hand (keep) LSPfix window there will be a list of files including osmim.dll

Put a check mark in the box “I know what I am doing”

Move all instances of osmim.dll from the left window (keep) to the right window (remove) by highlighting the file or files and clicking the arrow.

Click ‘Finish’

REBOOT to complete the task.

Now please restart your machine in Safe Mode.
to do this, restart, and when you see the bios screen tap the F8 key about once every second until a startup menu appears. choose safe mode, and press enter.

once you are in safe mode run hijackthis.
click Scan and check the following entries if they are present.

With all other programs closed, click Fix Selected
once that has finished close hijackthis.

Please open Windows Explorer
A shortcut is to hold down the 'windows key' and tap 'E'
go to tools, click Folder Options
Click on the View tab.
Make sure Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected
Uncheck Hide extentions for known file types, uncheck Hide Protected Operating System files
click Apply to All Folders
on the bottom right click Apply
then click OK
and close and reopen Windows Explorer.

Some of these files/folders may already be gone as a result of hijackthis.

Navigate to C:\Program Files\ and delete the following Folders

411Ferret

SearchLocate

TV Media

SpyBlast

Navigate to c:\windows\system32\ and delete the file ossproxy.exe

Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\ and delete the following files

cnpvsn.exe

BIAGNTD.exe

ARUpdate.exe

once that is done, reboot normally and post a new hijackthis log.
Shattuc: thank you very much for your help but it took so long I gave up on this forum and ended up erasing everything and reloading XP. It is fine now and Limewire is banned from the PC.
