I am not sure if I should post my log here. I think I have a trojan and when I run mcafee, it keeps causing errors and my computer reboots. I ran adaware SE everyday and empty all my cookies. Your help is GREATLY appreciated.

Optional Fix:
This entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DDCActiveMenu] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\DDC\ActiveMenu\DDCActiveMenu.exe" -boot

Is spyware. I suggest going to:

Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, and uninstall it. Reboot afterwards to complete the uninstall.

Post a new log file.

I really can't see anything in the log that would cause your problems, HOWEVER the new version of Hijack This! may find something not shown with your outdated version. :)
TY very much Micah. I followed your instructions and got fixed the line you asked. Here is the updated log with the new Hijackthis:

The log looks good.

I'm still not seeing anything that would interfere with a your AV software.

You could try some online virus scans (if you haven't already tried them lately):

Trend-Micro:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Panda:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Etrust:
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

Choose fix or clean.

Let them remove any infections found. Reboot inbetween each scan.

Please post back and let me know if the scans found anything. :)
Hi again Micah. My Computer is still not allowing a full virus scan–even from the ones you posted. This is my current log. Also, I got 2 errors which seem to be coming from:

c:Docume~1\owner\Locals~1\TEMP\WER5C.tmp.dir00\mcshield.exe.mdmp

C:Docume~1\owner\locals~1\temp\WER5C.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt

I hope that info helps.

This entry is used in connection with memory dumps - you can disable these by - right clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click on the Settings button in 'Startup and Recovery'. In the bottom pane - under 'Write debugging information' - click on the down arrow and then select 'None' - OK your way out.

I believe the two files you are having trouble with are related to this entry.

Please disable it, reboot, then try your scan again. :)
Hi again Micah. Now I am getting the error c:\Windows\Minidump\Mini082904-02.dmp c:\Docume~1\owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\Wer54.tmp.dir\00\sysdata.xml
Those files are related to the "error reporting" memory dumps. It sounds like (but I can't be sure) that you haven't successfully turned it off yet. To disable memory dumps, perform the following steps: Click the Start button Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties on the context menu that appears. Click the Advanced tab, and then click the Settings button in the Startup and Recovery section. In the Write debugging information tab, click to select (none) and then click OK. Click OK. The system will no longer perform a memory dump when it encounters a Serious Error. If problems still arise, please post a new log file. :)
Hi again Micah. I did an HP system recovery and reinstalled my XP. I think the problem was a coruption in my windows file. Here is my current log. Does everything look ok? TY again.

GOD bless!!!

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
(Personally I'm NOT recommending SP2 for XP at this time)

TY once again Micah. I hope to enroll in the Tomcoyote class as soon as I get the time to do so. Right now I am trying to create a website with dreamweaver and make a CD with Sonar Producer 3.0 so my plate is kind of full. I am the keyboard/organist at my church and I am helping to make our website. We have a lot of retirees and older people who are very scared of computers at the church. If I can learn something and pass it on it would be great :D . I will keep reading the threads and will probably see you soon. Blessed Be Phillip
