Upper or lower case. It doesn't matter. If the name matches (regardless of case), delete it.

A few things came back, so we're going to try it a bit differently this time.

Boot in "safe" mode, FIRST.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Scan".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O2 - BHO: NLS UrlCatcher Class - {AEECBFDA-12FA-4881-BDCE-8C3E1CE4B344} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvms.dll

O2 - BHO: CB UrlCatcher Class - {CE188402-6EE7-4022-8868-AB25173A3E14} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mscb.dll

O2 - BHO: ADP UrlCatcher Class - {F4E04583-354E-4076-BE7D-ED6A80FD66DA} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msbe.dll

Then click "Fix checked".

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Find and delete:

c:\windows\system32\msbe.dll <— file

c:\windows\system32\mscb.dll <— file

c:\windows\system32\nvms.dll <— file

They should already be deleted. Just check to be sure.

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

Push these three keys at the same time:

The task manger appears on the screen.

Click on the "Processes" tab, then click on "Image name" to sort them alpahbetically.

Find "cashback.exe" in the "running processes".

Click it to highlite it, then click "End process".

Then naviagate, and delete:

C:\Program Files\CashBack\bin\cashback.exe <— file

Reboot and post a new log file.

I see you have some "anti-spyware" programs running.

Do you know if any of them might be prohibiting the changes to the registry we are trying in order to remove those 3 files?
Normally those DLL's die without a whimper. I have a Perl HJT log analyzer I wrote, that I use to analyze logs. I'm not sure how it's missing the "cashback" program.
ok cashback, gone hopefully.deleted the program folder and all.
other problem is i dont think those 3 are going away, disabled the firewall, and antivirus to run the log, but no worky. Thanks for all your help thus far.

one question i was reading somewhere that smss.exe was spyware or adaware, with 2 other files present, have thatone but not the other 2. should i get rid of that one also?
We can try a "brute force" method.

Download killbox from here

Killbox.zip

Then unzip it and run it.

Close all windows and programs.

Run Killbox and paste the next line into the "Full Path of File to Delete" text box.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvms.dll

Check the button to the left of "Delete on Reboot".

Click the red dot with the white X in it, in the upper right of Killbox, then click "Yes".

The machine will reboot.

Go thru the same process, two more times, only use these lines to paste in the text box, one at a time:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\mscb.dll

C:\WINDOWS\System32\msbe.dll

After "killing" all three, run Hijack This!, and post a new log file

C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe

Is a valid and necessary process. Leave it alone.
cool program but it didnt go away. thanks for being patient with me thus far.

Well.. Horse feathers!!!!

These aren't normally hard to get rid of.

Go to:

Start > Run > type cmd and hit

A DOS window appears on the screen.

In the DOS window, type these three commands, one at a time, with at the end of each commad:

regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvms.dll
regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\System32\mscb.dll
regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\System32\msbe.dll

Then navigate at delete those files.

Let me know how things go.
ok, did as asked, looked to be deleted but not. ran another log and it was still there. Is it that cashback,i noticed that it is installed by cb.exe which is the installation for cashback? Guessing maybe that why i couldnt make it go away. But it hasnt come back yet this whole time. but i know it will. Hate to say it but i got to go get some sleep. Long-long day tomm. If you post something else for me to try; i will try to look at it in the morning, and if not be later tomm evening, have a night class. thanks again for the help, and i will be checkingback.
