Default Start Page On Hjt Is About:blank?
4 min read
Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
Download HijackThis into this folder (if you do not have the newest version).
If required a tutorial is here = Hijackthis Folder Tutorial
Links to Hijack This! v 1.98.2:
http://tools.radiosplace.com/HijackThis.exe
http://tools.radiosplace.com/hijackthis.zip

http://tools.zerosrealm.com/hjt.zip
http://spywarewarrior.com/files/hijackthis.zip
http://spywarewarrior.com/files/HijackThis.exe
Run it from that folder.
Click "Scan".
DO NOT "FIX" ANYTHING WITH IT YET!!!
FIXING THE WRONG THING COULD RENDER YOUR SYSTEM INOPERABLE!!!
Click "Save log".
Reply to this thread, and post the ENTIRE CONTENTS of the log file into this thread.
Normally, that infection can be cured with a few strategic clicks of Hijack This!
C Drive in the Program Files folder now.
I'm sorry my first message was a bit garbled - the actual query I have is why does it say about:blank forthe startup page in the configuration for HJT? I haven't changed anything but I know that about:blank is some kind of virus so should I be worried? Otherwise, if it isn't broken I won't try to fix it. I tried to attach a Word file with a screen dump of the window showing the configuration but it wouldn't let me send a word file - what type of file can I send?. Here's my logfile:

Have you any idea what the program might be?
Also do you have an answer about the configuration of HJT or do I need to look in another forum? (I'm new to this so bear with me).
Good work!!!
The "about:blank" must be a "default" in Hijack This!, because that's what mine says in that box as well, and I'm not hijacked.
I think I would just leave the file"02hnkf.exe" alone. I cannot tell if it is "malware" or not. But, since it isn't running it can't be a threat.
Let me leave you with things to consider to help prevent future infections.
GOD bless!!!
M68
P.S. Your IE is missing some of the latest patches and upgrades. I would seriously consider visiting the M$ web site and getting it updated.Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:
Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:
http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957
Download IE-Spyad here:
https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm
IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.
Check your browser settings here:
http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php
A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.
Follow safe Internet practices:
1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.
2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.
3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.
4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.
5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
Do not bother contacting us if you are not the topic starter. A valid, working link to the closed topic is required along with the user name used. If the user name does not match the one in the thread linked, the email will be deleted.
