Hello,

I've been searching for about 12 hours now, and found some topics about this virus on this forum, so I believe you guys can help me out.

It all started with 680180.net, it's causing these horrible popups every few minutes, it's making me crazy! And I can't loging to my hotmail mails anymore sometimes, which has probably got something to do with that?

I scanned with Norton Antivirus (which updates daily/weekly), but that one didn't find anything. I also have Norton Internet Security, it has said a few times (and I never got that before): "lnvwbc.exe" is trying to get to the internet.. And Internet Security adviced me to block it..

Here's my Hijack log from today:

A few hours ago I did found a virus called Bloodhound.exploit.6 when I tried to remove a program that had been in my Hijack, and looked suspicious to me. I also got rid of the "ntsearch virus" that causes to underline a lot of keywords in my IE, and when I clicked it, it went to a searchpage from NTsearch..

Please advice.
Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.com!

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This! and fix these items:

Reboot in "safe" mode. Use the link in my signature to tell you how if necessary.

Find and delete:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\lnvwb.dll <— file

C:\WINDOWS\System32\lnvwbc.exe <— file

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\pa.exe <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden". Use the link in my signature to explain how to show "hidden" files if necessary.

Boot in normal mode.

Please try these free online virus scans of your system:

Trend-Micro:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Panda:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Etrust:
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

Let them remove any infections found. Reboot inbetween each scan.

Next I would advise using some "off the shelf" malware removers to get anything on your machine that may be lurking.

Please download and run Spybot-Search&Destroy and Ad-Aware; they are the standard programs for finding and cleaning malware off your system. Here are links to both programs, and instructions for their use.

Get Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de (This is the NEW Version 1.3)
Get AdAware 6 from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

Download and install these programs in their own PERMANENT folders if you don't already have them. If you do have them, make sure they are UPDATED AND CONFIGURED AS DESCRIBED.

To run Spybot S&D:

After installing first press "Online", click on "Search for Updates", then select all updates. Beside the download button is a little down-pointed arrow, which gives you a choice of several download sites; select one of the servers listed (the Australian server usually works well). Now, press "Download Updates." If that site doesn't work or you get an error message, try a different server.

When the updates are finished, close your browser and ALL WINDOWS EXCEPT THE ONE SPYBOT IS RUNNING IN, then press 'Check for Problems'; THE SCAN WILL TAKE SEVERAL MINUTES. Have SpyBot remove all it finds THAT ARE MARKED IN RED. When it's finished, REBOOT your system.

Get AdAware 6 from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

Then, Run ADAWARE:

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate" button at the lower right of the panel. The current ref file should read at least 01R312 20.07.2004 or a higher number/later date. Updates for this program come out frequently to keep up with new malware. THIS IS CRITICAL; updating is as important as installing these programs.

Then ……..
Make sure the following settings are made and on ——-"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

then……
click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options ON: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

then………
go to settings(the gear icon on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and click "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ………..then…….."Cleaning engine" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then…… click "proceed" to save your settings.
To scan, click NEXT. This scan will also take several minutes.

When the scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press "next" and then say YES to the prompt, "do you want to remove all these entries?" Reboot again.

Post a new Hijack This! log file in this thread. :)
Hi Micah,

Thanks so much for all the help! I did everything you told me to, and I haven't been getting any annoying pops anymore, but I'm not sure if my computer is "clean" now, as I know that these virusses tend to revive easily.

What's next :D

Ooh, I just scanned my computer again with Spybot, and it found new stuff: "DSO Exploit" and "BFast" .. Thoughts?

Thanks again.
Thanks for the DSO Exploit explanation :)

I just ran adaware again and found 6 new "files" (although I think they're just cookies?

Are they dangerous? I just ran SpyBot again, and didn't find the "Bfast" thing, but I did find a file called "DoubleClick" (a cookie).. Same question, is this harmless?

If I ever need to do something for you, just let me know :) I've got a bunch of good performing websites.
Tracking cookies won't harm your machine.

It's just a method that various web sites can use to tell where you've been on the Internet. Just have Adaware delete them.

The log looks good.

Here's my list of things to help prevent future infections.

GOD bless!!!

M68 :)

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
