Hi, I had to have my pc reinstalled recently, due to faulty disk I was told, which has now been removed. I have 1x500GB HDD, and 3x1TB HDD disks in my setup, along with 1x1TB external USB drive.
Windows used to be on one of the 1TB HDD; obviously the now missing one, but has now been put on the 500GB drive by the tech firm that set it up again.
Anyway, I have noticed that not everything seems to work as it did before. This is over an 18-month period since being 'fixed'. I haven't ever been able to use my all-in-one printer since then, I get quite a lot of refusals of Administrator's rights. The first thing I noticed was a different computer name from before; anytime I reinstalled windows 95 - windows 7 myself I always had the same computer name. I stuck with the new one, but as time has gone on there are more things that do not work now. So I went to System Restore to see what was there; I had 2 restore points. I know I have more than that, because it's the first thing I do before I make any changes to the system etc. So then I went to device manager - there is a printer there, under Printers, and my all-in-one Printer is also there, further down under USB, and on viewing events on it I discovered it is still under my original computer name. My 2 DVD re-writers have been given different letters to before, but still remain the same as before in the Bios, and under my original computer name; and also, what was the floppy disk drive, replaced by a usb 2.0/3.0 unit is also there, now given floppy drive drivers again by Microsoft, but also under my original computer name and all drivers nearly everywhere replaced by Microsoft drivers.
Is it possible my system restore points have been going here too? Can the system be changed back to it's original computer name without a lot of fanfare, or am I headed into the trenches?
Apologies for longwindedness. Thanks for reading and in advance for any help offered.
