The easy way to make internet shortcuts is to drag the lock icon from the browser's address bar onto the desktop. When I run the shortcut thus created in x32Win10ProV21H1, it opens a printer dialog rather than a website in the browser. I want to get this fault fixed – I am NOT asking for workarounds to get viable internet shortcuts. I CAN make viable shortcuts from Chrome's Settings; More Tools; Create Internet Shortcut. Their properties show that the extension is HTML, whereas the faulty shortcuts have URL extensions. I have in vain tried general remedies like SFC, DISM, Windows Update etc, so am looking for a specific fix, which I suspect involves a registry 'patch'. Can anyone out there help me with this ?

Failure to create viable internet shortcut

What happened to using "explorer ms-settings:activation" instead?
Unfortunately I don't have the expertise to help you to resolve this... but I'm hoping that someone on the dozen or so forums that you've posted this question on will be able to lead you to an acceptable solution.

I don't understand the question. If it is a suggestion for action, could you please provide more context ?

I'm sorry. Apparently I made an incorrect assumption.
While researching your query, I found that you had posted to many forums as Sebastian42. I also found nearly identical posts by someone going by Bastie. And I found similiar queries by someone going by JosephPHILLIPA. All of these posts were made within the same time frame. I assumed that these were all posts made by you using different names. I guess I was wrong.
Back in July, JosephPHILLIPA, had a related query and stated here that the issue was resolved. Out of the dozen or so threads I read by each of the three names above, while various suggstions and work arounds were proffered by various helpers, all ideas were rejected by the OP except for that one. It is the only one that said it was resolved.
I suggest you have a look at that thread and see if there is something there that can help you.

Superb research. Those three names all refer to me. I guess I must have misjudged the situation if I marked it as resolved; I did put the issue on the back burner while I deal with more pressing matters. Thank for for giving me the link to the supposed solution. Will 'revise' it.

OK, I have had a look at the thread, and I did say it was solved; but it is not clear to me that THAT thread is related to the thread I am currently pursuing.
And if it is, that could be another piece of this intricate puzzle - but I don't see how.
It is the case that in the current thread, like the one you referred to, there is a difference between the 32bits and 64bits systems - what succeeds in 64bits fails in 32bits.
To clarify further : the 'solved thread' referred to a shortcut to a Win10 SETTING, whereas the current thread is about an internet shortcut.

Both are about shortcuts and x32Win10ProV21H1. That was enough for me to call it similar.
Again, I have no knowledge or even understanding about the issue your are having.
Good luck.

indeed they both are - I'm glad you reminded me of the other one - it MIGHT have a bearing on the current one.
