This is not a huge deal but happens enough to be frustrating. I can't turn the volume on my Win10 laptop. The problem is the speaker icon in the bottom right will not open. It has an "X" on it meaning it is muted. I usually can click on it and immediately it opens allowing me to unmute it. Today it will not respond to lf or rt click. So in the past I've been able to go to control panel/sound and click unmute and get the sound. Not so today. Can you think of any other fixes?

Have you tried a Windows 10 system restore point, see info here
Open Device Manager, expand SOund, video and game controllers. Open your sound device, click on the Driver tab then if available, click on Roll back driver. See if that fixes the problem. Sounds to me like Windows 10 updated your audio driver and broke it.
If that isn't available or doesn't fix it, right click on your sound device and select Uninstall. Reboot and let Windows 10 reload the driver, see if that fixes it.
Thanks. That worked. You guys are the best. You continue to save my butt time after time. Appreciate it so much.
Which fix helped?
Glad you're working/
